355HP and 383 ft/lbs. Not far off from you. Most people wouldn't notice that difference pulling.

Oh yes they would. The 3.5 EB makes 420 lb-ft at 2500 RPM while your 383 lb-ft doesn't come until 4000+ RPM. You have nowhere near as much torque under the curve and still would be short even with the 6.2L.

Yeah the 3.5 ecoboost is pretty awesome. The 6.2L Chevy though gives you about the same performance but without any perceived reliability issues. I bought a V8 but sorta wish I’d gotten the ecoboost. I just read so many horror stories online and I plan on keeping my truck a long time.

The Toyota Taco is one of the most underpowered trucks I have ever driven. Reliable as can be and holds their value like no other, but severely underpowered.

Drives fine, you don’t need that much power to drive legally and hauls motorcycles and small skiffs great. If you need to do more than that, sure get something bigger. Otherwise they are great trucks and worth their value.

I don't say this often here, but thanks guys. I'm targeting next summer (truck willing) to purchase and have narrowed my selections down to the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost F-150, or a lower trimmed F-250.

I camp a lot with about 6k Lbs in tow, so I'm on the fence between my truck being a better daily driver, or not being able to even feel my RV behind me every third weekend. If anyone has driven both, what do you recommend? I'm used to driving a half ton truck, and with the drastically higher tow ratings of recent years, I'm leaning toward the F-150. If I'm only going to be at 6k LBS loaded, should I even consider the 3/4 tons?

The 3.5 EB will handle that with ease. No reason to go 3/4 ton for that.

I tow a 14000lb trailer with a 6 cylinder. It will pull up the Miss. River bridge without dropping out of overdrive.

What... Cummins diesels have 6 cylinders.

You don't need a F250 for that baw. The little 2.7 Ecoboost will tow 6k with no issues

If 6K is it and that's all you're gonna tow in the foreseeable future, I would go with the 1/2 ton V-8 Ford, or if you can swing it, the 6.2 GM. Usually you have to get the higher cost trim packages to get 6.2 in the GM though.

Here's why:

Proven longevity of the V-8 with very little mileage penalty. Plus, easier to resell, b/c no one doesn't like a V-8 and some don't like a boosted engine in a pickup.

The 6.2 gas 3/4 ton Ford is pretty terrible on fuel on its very best day, and rides rough when empty/not towing.

My $.02.

Depending on your axle ratio, that's getting close to the limits. I like my 2.7, but also know I don't tow very much, so I didn't need anything more. If I had a boat, I'd be in the 3.5 at least.

I just texted my dad what his MPG on his truck(he has a 16). He responded 20mpg. Obviously I don't know what type of driving he does. It might be rare, but I know myself and several others who can get it.

Had a 2012 silverado and hated the AFM. If I knew more about it when buying I wouldn't have done it. If I buy a V8, I want 24/7 V8 power.

Yes...the original Cummins diesels in Dodges were straight 6s. I loved the old 12-valve 1st gen.

Why the 12-valve cummins was awesome

Even the smaller ecoboost could handle that. I have a 2016 2.7 ecoboost with 51K miles on it. I have pulled a 22 ft airboat with ease getting 9 mpg and a 20 ft mudboat all the way to Oklahoma and back getting 15 mpg. Driving back and forth to work everyday going the posted speed limit will yield approx 24 mpg. I have everything stock like the day i bought it. The only downside is the truck is so light that it can be hard to stop sometimes.

Until they put in AFM. Before then the only problems were piston slap and water pumps. AFM alone would keep me away from any new GM truck V8.

They fixed that issue 5 model years ago.
