Are you talking about paying taxes on the interest earned? Do people actually avoid saving and investing so they don't have to taxes on money earned?

No, OP said she was a singer. I am guessing there is a good chance she is paid in cash a lot being a singer. She keeps cash at home, there is no record of it, she deposits in a bank account there is now a record of $20K in income in the event she is ever audited.

If they start prosecuting those for petty theft, blacks will scream that it is racists, and another example of the white man trying to hold them down.

I’m fine with that. Just don’t charge me for blowing crook’s head off when he breaks into my house at night.

I am good with it, as long as they are screaming it from prison. It doesn't matter what color the crook is.

the bank will file an IRS form 8300 at $10k in deposits and they'll already be looking into it

but interestingly no one's jumping up and down getting mad at her for the implied tax evasion

I think your option is to sue the perp directly in civil court for conversion.

You don't pay taxes on money sitting in a checking account at the bank.

If you have 20K in a bank it should be drawing income (which is taxable)

Bigger issue is if you have 20K in a bank, the IRS is going to want to know where it came from and if taxes are due on it.

Bingo. I shouldn't really be surprised this needed to be spelled out for some on the OT

the left wants all crime decriminalized since they have decided crime is a result of putting too many people in jail

they simultaneously want to make free speech and free thinking a crime and want to take away all your rights

In Dallas, you generally have to steal more than $750 to be prosecuted

Is this always going to be mischaracterized here?

I wanted to ask

I'm guessing <$750 is a misdemeanor and they're calling that non-prosecution? Or is it something else?
