I was just there last week. Got some polo shorty shorts for the summer, and a couple of new work shirts. Then I spent a small fortune at Simply Southern on my daughter.

Coworker of mine had this exact attitude for years. Used to make all the Braden jokes, make fun of all the other travel ball parents at work. Then one day, his 12yo threw a shut-out in a 13yo tournament. Now he’s got an entire pitching bullpen built up in his backyard, compete with astroturf and a radar display. Private lessons twice a week and a high school weight lifting program.

Been involved with a team for almost a year now and have never seen a ‘braxxxtyn’.. I have seen a gage once, but he was a junior… do what you want with that info

If you can't tell that the board's use of "Braxxtyn" isn't exaggeration based on typical "travel ball names" I don't know what to tell you

I used to think the travel ball world series was for the best travel ball teams. Then I learned all you gotta do is pay some money to attend.

dude i dont care what you do. i dont make cash off travel ball.....quite the opposite.

i get many of you didnt play sports in HS, so not playing is no big deal for yall. for many kids it is though. You dont get that......and i understand that too.

and yall act like this shite is soooooooo expenisive. hell for almost all except a handfull of teams across the state....its less than 2k for a team.

and those of you that feel this away...do you not allow your kids to do other sports outside of school? i mean cheer, dance, rodeo, soccer, hockey, martial arts, lacrosse are all more expensive.....hell things like fishing and hunting end up being more expensive if you do it all the time.....or are those ok because the OT likes those things?

This topic is so played out. It's 80 percent of the forum vs LSU777 and the Lake Charles/BR/DFW crew that are obsessed with their kids playing HS ball like it's the pinnacle of life.

Apparently, life in Lake Charles is measured by whether your kid can play HS baseball.

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Travel ball doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want it to be.

The "organizations" with "professional coaches" are absolutely businesses that prey on parents that are willing to pay whatever it takes to keep up with the joneses, particularly if you're talking U10 and below. The cost to play on most of these teams is north of $2,000 not including travel expenses, and the "professional coaches" are often former college walkons that didn't care to find a real job after sitting the bench.

But you can do it for much cheaper (under $500), especially when the kids are younger, by finding like-minded parents and forming your own team. The nice thing about it becoming so popular is that if you're in any decent sized metro area (think Lake Charles, Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Houma, Hammond), you can probably play in a tournament less than 45 minutes from your house every weekend if you wanted to.

you are 100% right. it doesnt guarantee shite at all. if you are playign AA ball at 13/14 hell you are pretty much just playing for fun, if you arent good enough to be on a high level team by then you arent making a HS team anyways.

talent and hard work are what matter. in baseball and other really skill based sports...out working your peers can take you a long long ways.

who the frick thinks this?

but fact of the matter is you arent making a good high school program playing rec ball. if that bothers you...oh well.

bottomline is...not making the mlb without playing high school ball and bottomline is...not making a HS team without playing travel is what it is. and that isnt changing. you can be the parent that makes the stand against it...thats fine...your kid will stop playing baseball at 14 at the latest. good luck with that.

Good God almighty this is the dumbest shite I’ve ever heard. I would bet the burnout rate amongst travel ball kids is insane and they aren’t even playing high school ball. You mentioned 40-50 games a year between spring and fall, which is absolutely insane. If you want a good high school athlete, make him a well rounded athlete. Let him play baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. Stop trying to live your dreams through your kids.

not even close to the truth and like i have said 100 times, caring about sports...doesnt mean you dont care about academics or other things.

bottom line is most of this forum is frickign stupid when it comes to high school sports. they think its 1990 still and you will just play rec ball and make the team and if you say anythign different you are living through your kid...your life is measure by whether your kid can play in hs, you are ate up with travel ball etc etc

or how about just trying to educate some of you fricks. if you dont want to play....dont. i couldnt care any less. but i also hate seeing people listen to some of you who think you know best and then suddenly kid is 13 and out of baseball. thats fine if that is what the kid wants but as a parent, dont make that decision for them.

and do you think laffy is different in some way? where the hell you think the kids that go to STM, T, VC etc come from?

think they are playing lafayette little league and suddenly starting at STM? :rotflmao:

I’ve wondered why is travel baseball so big but you don’t see the same stuff for basketball or football.

You’d think a 7 on 7 summer travel football league would be popular. Make Jaxson the next QB star

Basketball has AAU which is just as big and just as bad as travel baseball

OMG nooooo.

I don't give a single frick about baseball. Like I said on other threads, traveling to shitty southern towns to watch kids play in made up tournaments sounds like hell to me.

Same for AAU in basketball.

Sports are just not that important.

That's only 8-10 tournaments. Most teams are pretty laid back in the fall and only play in 1-2 tournaments with limited practice. For the younger ages, spring season usually kicks off in February/March and runs through June. Most of these kids are playing basketball, football, soccer, etc.

separating parents from their money.

Its a multi billon dollar industry in which half the teams are coached by people who might have been on the team but didn't excel at sports in HS. Or someone who made the all star team in rec ball, and then quit baseball in the middle of their freshman year so now they are living through their kids.

i let my kids play what they want to play. they have to play atleast 1 other sport until atleast middle school though.

FTR most travel ball kids play atleast 1 other sport and usaully are your more atheltic kids

about the same as baseball across the board and the way its always been. fact of the matter is the jump at 13 to the big field is a huge issue for many kids and most are not prepared. it was always only the kids that wanted to play in hs playing after 12, same now.

quote:

thats 1 trounament in the fall and an average of 2 tournaments a month march-june. that isnt much at all.

and you need about 35-40 games minimum to be able to progress like you should.

omg no....kids like sports...omg no.

its cool you dont like sports...some kids do though. its ok some do and its ok that you dont.

but nobody is living through there kid for allowing their kid to play a sport they love.
