In 2020, three friends found themselves without a job and aimless. With the world screeching to a halt, the boys decided to get out of the Covid-19 chaos of Los Angeles. Their goal was Montana, and the means to get there, trainhopping.
To them, there was no better way to let out the bottled in energy from being on pandemic lock down. They brought 15 rolls of super 8mm film and documented the journey.
The tale that unfolds defines Sunburnt. Not knowing how, but doing it anyway. Worry about everything else and the burn once they're there... And getting from here, to there, is where they arrive.
This is a fantastic short documentary. Definitely worth the watch

As someone who loves trains I can’t imagine anything worse than riding on a covered hopper car for days on end

I watched one recently about a couple guys riding the train that goes across the Sahara. That one looked miserable.

Check youtube for train hoppers.
There are way more than plenty of people who do this as a hobby or way of life.

That sucked balls. Except for the fact that I learned about a cool new, old song

eh. They're no Stobe or Ran Out On A Rail.
Go check out Ran Out On A Rail on youtube. Love that dudes videos.
Stobe, RIP, was a fun kinda drunk hobo that has mad piano skills and knowledge of many obscure places near railyards all through the country.

He probably faked this one, too.

If I was told by another train crew that I had riders they got to deal with a lot of slack action for the rest of the trip.
Had three of the run and climb on the trailing unit one time at a crew change. Happened to spot them so they got hauled off to jail. No warning, just had the cops come and get them.
Every now and then would hear about someone finding a dead one. The dumb ones would ride on lumber cars. That were loaded. Heavy slack action can move the entire load as some find out. One guy all that was visible was a foot and ankle sticking out between the lumber and the bulkhead of the car. He was a grease spot.

Solid but I got tired of the grainy footage, should have mixed in some higher quality IMO.

You literally just said you would
Ride slack if you saw stowaways and finished your post by describing how slack turned one stowaway into human grease
And to be sure I’m not Judging you, but couldn’t help but tie A & B together; and maybe I misread it!
