Thousands of bourbon barrels were piled in a massive heap Friday after a large section of a whiskey storage warehouse collapsed at a distillery in the heart of Kentucky bourbon country. About 9,000 barrels filled with aging bourbon were affected by the warehouse collapse at the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, said Nelson County Emergency Management spokesman Milt Spalding. No one was in the building when it collapsed, Spalding said.

Barton bourbon is owned by Sazerac, a New Orleans-based spirits company. Spokeswoman Amy Preske said the company was assessing the damage and declined further comment

Doesn’t look like a total waste especially if many of the barrels remained intact.

If I built that rack house I’d go steal as many intact barrels as possible, cause I’m getting fired either way.

This comes right on the heels of the truck wreck on I40 in Arkansas where a load of bourbon was destroyed all over the road.

How will people survive these catastrophes?

I wonder if it was insured and if so how they value that? Valued in bulk or eventual retail value?

I'm sure it's valued at what they sell to retailers.
