I remember in the mid 90s I loved going to toys r us by Cortana mall. It was big as hell and I was in heaven. They had everything and great selections. Now it's sad to go in with my son where it is babies r us/toys r us and they have crap toys now where my son not doesn't even like the selections in there. For his birthday and Christmas I had to buy vintage batman, ninja turtles, and ghostbusters toys for him.

It use to come out in what? Late August, early September? I use to wait for that thing to come out and would look through it.. probably 100+ times circling things I wanted.
The thing that use to piss me off was that I always wanted a football uniform, but they always had a picture of a kid wearing the Cowboys uniform and they only had a handful of teams available.. Which didn't include the Saints. They had Dallas, Miam, Raiders, NYG, SF... And maybe one or two more teams, but I always wanted a uniform, but would have only asked for one if they had the Saints, which they didn't

Wife and I did actual Christmas shopping in store at Tours R Us this year for the first time since our oldest was a baby (he's six.) As convenient and easy as Amazon is, we honestly had a ton of fun picking them stuff out in the store. Something about just going in that place brings you back to your childhood. It is sad they are shutting down.

I remember going to toy store back in the day after getting shots at the doctors office. Mom would buy me a matchbox car that came in the box. They also had huge piano thing on the floor you could hop on and it would make noise like a piano.
It is sad that kids coming up will never get to enjoy stuff like this.

I remember as a kid wishing I could be picked for the Toys R us super toy run they did every year. Just like as adults we fantasize what we would do if we win the lottery....as a kid I would fantasize about what I would fill the cart up with if I was doing the toy run.

I remember KB Toys in the mall when I was younger. That was a cool place.
But hey, times change.
The last time I was in a Toys R Us, the building looked like it was ready to fall down. The place was old and dirty. And the toys were overpriced.

This is what I call the curse of nostalgia. I'm not immune to it either.
The elephant in the room nobody is talking about is the thing most of us are using right now to post on a message board.
Electronics is one of the major factors that has decimated the toy industry. Mobile games are very cheap for the consumer and are designed to be addictive to play. Kids literally have toyboxes on the go. Consoles and computer games have exploded in popularity and accessibility since the 7th generation.
I've actually watched a YouTube documentary on the decline of TRU. They had some other financial blunders as well. But the shift in consumer habits for kids has really been the death knell.

Toy industry is fine. Walmart, Target, online etc. They aren't going anywhere.
