I wonder if you could buy an affected TOYOTA/Lexus that hasn’t had the new engine and then get the new engine recall and then sell it for profit?

Have the 2024 engines or the hybrids had any problems?

I have one and have had no issues. I have the twin turbo hybrid. The torque is amazing. 583ft/lbs. One thing that pisses me off is that in Louisiana we now have to pay a tax for all hybrid and electric vehicles. I understand the theory behind this but this truck gets only 19 mpg. I pay more in gas tax than I did with my previous non hybrid. Lazy legislation.

Cargo space related? Because I thought the interior itself was leaps and bounds better than the previous generations. I 100% agree on cargo space though, it is not in the same realm as it's competitors there and not really functional with the 3rd row up.

Toyota made a massive mistake changing the motors in the Tundra and Tacoma. Should have stuck with the proven.

But isn’t that what a recall is?

I had a Jeep that had a recall on the side air bags. Even shitty Chrysler offered to fix all impacted vehicles.

When Toyota does it, it's splooge time for the circle jerkers. Toyota literally does nothing wrong in their minds

It's the same reason everyone is getting rid of pony and muscle cars, the EPA regulations don't allow for them to. Toyota/Lexus would still be using the 4.0, 4.6, and 5.7 across all platforms if they could.

I thought it was strange that my neighbor who works for Toyota USA HQ just got one of these a couple months ago. Guess he had the inside scoop.

The exterior is worse in some ways. It very clearly wasn't the same team that did the Lexus GX and Toyota Land Cruiser - both of THOSE are very well executed. The Sequioa is a rare Toyota failure.

The Sequioa should have just been an enlarged version of the mid sized Land Cruiser - or maybe just a stretched full sized Land Cruiser. But instead we have this thing that somehow falls well, well behind the older Tahoe, Yukon, and Suburban design in every measurable metric.

I was really excited when I heard the new Sequioa was going to have a solid rear axle. But they didn't really build a true full sized Land Cruiser replacement. They built a compromise machine that can't even compete with a Z71 Tahoe or AT4 Yukon off pavement, much less appeal to the people who want a full sized Land Cruiser. And it falls well short of its domestic competition when it comes to actually hauling people and cargo because of its compromised interior layout.

My theory is that this is the last generation of the Sequioa. They will probably not even refresh the design and will just keep this around for 7-8 years and discontinue it when this generation Tundra ends production. The old one sold so poorly that they couldn't justify a north America only design unless they just made a lowered Tundra with a wagon body on it. That's why it kind of sucks. It looks and feels half baked because it is.

I don't think anyone is saying that. The difference is they are fixing it and doing it the expensive way on their end to rectify it much quicker than we have seen from other brands.

Meanwhile GM 8-speed, Ford 10R80, Ram New Cummins....crickets and those issues have been known since before Toyota released renderings of the vehicles they are fixing.

Replacing the entire engine is much faster, and cheaper, than tearing down thousands of engines to replace the short block. Have you seen the labor rates at the dealer lately? The factory doesn't pay the same, but it is a large percentage of that number.

And likely to have fewer issues than said thousands of engines assembled in the dealer's shop.

Not to mention the machining debris can go throughout the engine, causing problems beyond just the main bearings.

Replacing the entire engine isn't the noble move you fanboiz are making it out to be.

Thanks. I’m getting bored with my truck and have been exploring moving to a sequoia 4x4 in the future

STOP frickING AROUND WITH LOW CYLINDER TURBO ENGINES YOU IDIOTS!!!!!
While I agree, this specific issue is (allegedly) caused by a procedural error in cleaning out “foreign material” that eventually ended up compromising the crankshaft bearing system.

It could have arguably happened no matter the displacement of the engines.

Most (if not all) of this happened at the new Alabama engine plant near Huntsville, AL.

Even famous Japanese persnickety-ness can’t overcome Gumpian inattention to important detail (like “don’t frick your own sister” for example).

Toyota and recalls is not all sunshine and rainbows, I had gen 2 taco and frame rusted thru. Ya Toyota did replace the frame but dealer did horrible job reconnecting everything and I had to go to small claims court to be made whole.
I looked at new taco for midsized truck but w new engine etc, I went w a ridgeline, ya its not really a truck but 3.5 l mtr has been used for 20 yrs in everything.
