Not really. If the need for a usable third row seat with capacity for storage behind it is paramount, it’s the sequoia all day. If priorities are fit and finish, off-roading,and you won’t be using the third row, go with the land cruiser.

s. New Land cruiser have a TON of electronics in them. That stuff will likely break eventually. I dont think they are going to be as reliable as the Land cruisers of the 1980s and 1990s.

I have a 2009 Lexus lx 570 With 175k miles and everything works just fine

I also have a 97 land cruiser that still works fine.

Yep. Have a 20 year old 100 series that runs like a champ. All electronics besides the cigarette lighter and the dash light for “drive” work. A little frame rust but nothing a wire brush and some treatment couldn’t fix. No intention of selling it unless it’s to jump into a 200 series. Incredibly well built vehicle.

Sequoia has the highest percentage of models still on the road after 200,000 miles.

Off-roading capability argument is laughable. Who’s taking either model off road? If they do, remember that the Sequoia is basically a Tundra truck.
I’ve been in the backcountry all over America. If you want to get off road, go Tacoma, 4Runner, or Rubicon.

Save yourself 50k and get a 4Runner .
It’s basically a hybrid of both of those

The 97 doesn’t have much by way of superfluous electronics. And the 2009 doesn’t have as much as the new ones.

I just don’t think it will be as easy to replace all that stuff when it breaks (and it will) as keeping up a land cruiser from the 80s or 90s.

Do you know the land cruiser production numbers for the USA? Less than 4000. That’s less than 3 at every dealer in the country.

Plus it’s built in japan like the 4Runner
Sequoia is built in Indiana not that we can’t build fine things.

Only my opinion, but the 4Runner is under powered. If that's the size you want, check out the GX460. Same chassis and suspension with a V8.

While I agree, so is the GX460.... 300hp out of a luxury V8 is pathetic, especially when the 4Runner V6, makes slightly less.

The GX is also the most antiquated in technology of the entire Lexus line up.

Agreed. I wish Lexus would get off their arse and update it. I'm in the market for a new daily and that's the sole reason i'm not plopping down the cash on a new one. But the GX feels like it can at least try to get out of its own way, whereas the 4Runner is struggling. Probably has to do with the 60 extra lb/ft of torque. So the GX gets a slight nod in my book.

Very true

I'm in the same boat, increased power would make it that much better. I'm glad to see Lexus finally gave it its Safety System plus for 2020, needs carplay /Android auto as well.

I have owned an '85, '89, '94, and 2013 Landcruiser. My dad had a 2012 Sequoia.
Pros on the Sequoia: Lots more interior space, second row seats had a tilt function, larger gas tank, more family features like cup holders and screens on the windows.

Cons: I thought it was too big. I don't have kids and don't need the additional space. I also felt it was too wide on the inside. Like they had to make things cartoonishly large to fit the space.

LC Pro: I've never, in 17 years, brought any of these in for anything beyond basic maintenance. I think the LC is the perfect size. Slightly larger than a 4runner but not these land yachts that can't be parked. It is perfectly reliable and as comfortable on the highway as it is in the rain offroad.
LC Con: Gas tank is small. It is hard to go from Houston to Baton Rouge on one tank. You can do it if there is no BS on the causeway. The middle seat flips up which kills some cargo room. We tend to just lay the back down and put stuff (like a sheet of plywood) on top the leather. It isn't common; crook breaks a window, expect to wait for parts to be shipped in. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other cars in the price point. The tech is lacking and it isn't as trimmed out for the money (that's how they separate it and the Lexus)

I've had lots of cars and like most of them. I love Land Cruisers. They are just different than everything else. As long as they're sold in America I'll have one in my driveway.
