In a market that seems like it can't get enough trucks and SUVs, the Toyota Land Cruiser has failed to break 4,000 units a year in the United States since 2006. Perhaps Toyota's lack of marketing for its single longest-running nameplate is to blame, but either way, the numbers are less than impressive. As a result, it's claimed by Eric Sarjeant, General Manager of Ed Martin Toyota in Indianapolis, that the 200-Series Land Cruiser will soon be pulled from the States. The news was posted on the IH8Mud Forums, a popular spot for Land Cruiser owners.

If the reports from this dealer are true, then it will mean the end of Toyota's longest-running nameplate in the United States, at least for the moment. And the dealer isn't the only person to give credence to this news. Similar speculation has been heard in the past by MotorTrend's Jonny Lieberman.

That sucks. New ones are around $90k though, so not that surprising.

People in the United States wont pay what inevitably ends up as 100k for a Toyota branded car even if it could do backflips down Mt. McKinley.

Rich Australians, South Africans, and various others that moved here must have been the only buyers because they know what it is

Why get a $90K land cruiser when you can get an $75k Yukon.

Can’t compete with the Germans. Or the Americans for that matter.

People don’t want to spend 90k on a Toyota?

Surprising

This has been rumored on IH8Mud for a while. I have a 100 series that’s rigged for overlanding that is about to get way more valuable

Toyota moved to the 4Runner as the vehicle for off-road capability and tried to shift the Land Cruiser to luxury SUV only. A completely unnecessary move, IMO.

My dad had a 97 Land Cruiser that I drove in college in the early 2010s.

Best car ever. Never had a single problem,

Meanwhile, the new $80,000 Chevy Suburban has a wait list.

Toyota did a little better job keeping Lexus version current. It sells better than the Land Cruiser despite being more expensive.

And for real off roading, a 4Runner TRD is virtually bulletproof and can go just about anywhere for half the price.

Only because they still won't import a freaking 70 Series to the U.S.

Sad. But the new prices are ridiculous especially for an outdated interior and engine. Might as well get a Range Rover. But then again Land Cruiser enthusiasts would balk at Range Rover reliability.

I’ve always wanted a Land Cruiser but it would be a mid 80s to mid 90s one.

Son of a bitch!

I can’t afford one so it actually doesn’t affect me at all, but still.

Same here. Can’t believe I let go of that vehicle. Blue with blue leather interior. Rode like a tank.

If they made that same exact vehicle now, and sold it for 60k, 4runners would be phased out instead.

Problem with 4Runners is, you have to keep them for 15 years.

You will be able to legally import them by the time you can afford one.

They’re basically just funneling all of that over to the Lexus LX. Don’t quote these exact numbers but someone from Toyota said rather then sell 3000 LCs and 5000 LCs, they’re rather sell 8000 LXs. They’re essentially the same. And I believe this only applies to the US market.

They perfected the gamut, and introduced Lexus.

They now have to make Lexus rugged performance.

Tough task.

Great run. Land Cruiser was everything Land Rover stopped being.
