What was your favorite toy as a kid?

The Strong National Museum of Play in New York announced the 2022 inductees into the National Toy Hall of Fame are Masters of the Universe, Lite-Brite and the top.

The Rochester museum announced the inductees were selected from a field of finalists that also included bingo, Breyer Horses, Catan, Nerf, pinata, Phase 10, Pound Puppies, Rack-O and Spirograph.

"The top is one of the oldest toys and an integral part of many cultures, where it developed independently as a plaything. With more than 5,000 years of history behind it, it's about time that the top spun its way into the National Toy Hall of Fame," Chief Curator Christopher Bensch said.

"Part of the appeal of Masters of the Universe toys grew out of their being well-suited to the way kids play. The team at Mattel understood that kids spend lots of time in fantasy play and like the opportunity to project themselves into the role of the hero," Curator Michelle Parnett-Dwyer said. "Masters of the Universe characters had the strength, weapons, and power to defeat the villain -- and give kids confidence. He-Man, after-all, regularly asserted 'I have the power!'"

"Whatever their shape or size, Lite-Brite play sets have encouraged kids to color and draw with light, applying 20th-century technology to ancient mosaic techniques. In 1968 promotional materials, Hasbro declared Lite-Brite a 'magic light box,' and that magic continues more than 50 years later," Curator Nicolas Ricketts said.

What is this? Baseball? How does the voting process work? I find it hard to believe that bingo, Nerf and the pinata wouldn't make the cut to be in the toy hall of fame.

Sit-and-Spin

Me and my brothers flung ourselves off this into the wall many times.

Cool idea but a real let down.

Legos. My favorite then and now.

I have about $1500-2000 worth of completed Star Wars sets at my work office.

My daughter is huge into Legos as well. So that is really cool to be able to share that with her.

I can think of a few toys we did this with in the 70's. Commercials got us, but when we actually got to play with it it wasn't that fun. Back to the Nerf football we went.

Masters of the universe was easily my favorite childhood toy. Had a ton of them and castle grey skull.

3 way tie between GI Joe, MOTU and Transformers. MOTU sure was cool even though it often suffered from an identity crisis.

For me it was the "little green army men" and the Guns of Navarone play set. Close second was Daisy Model 25 BB gun.

I see these are being pitched again on social media...I'm sure they aren't as well made as the vintage early-mid 70's editions....

Man, the top seems like it should make it in long before Lite Brite or He-Man. That just seems like a true OG toy (like caveman times even ).

I used to frick with Lite Brite all the time though. And I actually amassed a decent collection of He-Man action figures as a kid. Think we hit some up at a garage sale or something like that, but I loved it.

Masters of the Universe until I was around 7-8 then switched to Micromachines and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My sister had the Lite-Brite

GOAT commercial for a game that was fun for maybe four minutes (I challenge anyone to see this gif without hearing the music):
