actually i got a plausible answer from a lurker....

Iowa, Lacassine, Bell City, Woodlawn, Lebleu, and Hayes are all pretty much the same thing... I live in Woodlawn... My kids go to Lacassine, but my address is Iowa. 
I always thought it was pronounced different so that it was not confused with the state.
