ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. (WVUE) -Two towing vessels collided Sunday morning in the Mississippi River, according to the Coast Guard.
The collision happened around 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 123 in St. Charles Parish.
One person was rescued from the water, however, the Coast Guard says three people are still unaccounted for as of 7 a.m.
One vessel sunk while the other sustained damage. A response boat is in the water and a helicopter is searching the area. LINK

I know these baws wear life jackets, but im assuming the missing may have been inside the sunk boat? Horrifying

Crossed the Luling Bridge a little after 0600hrs. Looked like a Billfish Rodeo Shotgun start w/ all the search boats upriver. Prayers to all involved.

Awful. Can’t believe it sunk, one must have smacked the shite out of the other boat.

Live in Destrehan. I knew something was up around that time as I heard either the warning or distress signals go off for a couple of minutes

I have plenty of friends who work on the river, they tell me the the life jacket is worn so they can find the body, not to keep you from drowning.

This is tragic. Does anyone know the names of the 2 boats involved? I worked as a deckhand on the River back in the early 80s for a year and then during the summer time when I was in college. It can get really dangerous down around Baton Rouge and New Orleans area due to the number of ships and large tows being pushed down the River. Prayers for the families who have missing members.
