Not a judgement nor condemnation, but something compelling to me is the thought that there are people who are alive, doing a job that requires them to always focus their attention and energy on

a. Killing other people.
b. Destroying things that kill people.

Science. Or magic.

very cool video. As someone who just rewatched Fury yesterday, Brad Pitt wishes he had a few of those during WWII.

Former TOW gunner here. Fired about 20 over my career. Awesome weapons system that can be used for a lot of cool stuff.

I was infantry on a M113. We had a tow company right nest to us. I never knew that the TOW was like a Dragon, also having a wire guided system

Unless one of the guidance rockets fired very soon after launch, the only sound you could hear was the wire unspooling. It was a silent death if the target was hit.

I watched that video five times and concluded that the missile was shot out of an invisible launcher.

When they got there his crew had only ever fired two live missiles.

They were over $25k per missile a while ago. When we did fire one, dignitaries and top brass would show up.

The first time I saw one fired, it was my vehicle and gunner. Our gunner who was great in simulations, including NTC twice, missed the target. It was a big let down. Everyone was pretty excited beforehand.

I felt sorry for the guy and was surprised when he didn't just stay in the APC until everyone had left.

You should be thankful those brave heroes exist and for the scientists that develop the the tools they need to complete their mission. Those people do their job so we have the ability to live in relative peace with the freedom that we all enjoy.

I was in an infantry unit and the TOW was on an armored personnel carrier. Never saw live action but if we missed we were dead. APC against a tank would not be a pretty sight for the good guys.

Our APC had a rotating turret that the TOW was mounted on. In battle, when fired the crew would be inside with their fingers crossed and the vehicle would be buttoned up.

If you enjoyed that, then watch the video on the Battle of 73 Easting in the first gulf war. It shows the devastating effect of modern armor when used effectively.

Seems like enemies would eventually come up with some dummy type defensive tactics to this, no?

I didn't think his message was critical, FWIW.

He brings up a good point that lethality should be the ultimate goal of every Servicemember regardless of their MOS or rank, and the DOD civilians and contractors supporting the military.

"Does this make me and my unit more lethal or improve their chances of surviving contact?" should be the first question that gets asked when looking at any potential training, equipment acquisition, or new policy/standard.

If it doesn't, then it takes attention and energy away from killing the enemy.

In the recent Azerbaijan-Armenia dustup the Azerbaijanis did the same thing to Armenian armor using cheap off the shelf drones. The tank had a good hundred year run, but it's a large, expensive dinosaur.
