If Nola isn't an elite city, then I challenge you to name one. Pretty much all elite cities have "ills" that are pretty bad in some shape or form. If you name an elite city, then I feel certain that someone on TD came give you a shite story about that place. On the flip side, many more will tell you about the great time they had there. I guess that is what makes a city elite, but ts ability to overcome the ills that plague it. In my book, in spite of the numerous and obvious shortcomings, Nola is still elite.

Dude, check out the top 20 restaurants in NOLA then get back to is with the thought that you can get that all over south La. LOL

I guess if you want fried shrimp or catfish.

There's a whole lot of pussies in this thread. If you're so scared of getting robbed, just stay Uptown and you'll be fine.

First images that pop up when you Google map 1600 N. Prieur. Would you stay here:
That's not even exploring a block or Two. It's just different angles from the corner of the street.

Pittsburgh and word of New Orleans being incredibly shitty has certainly reached me.
Glad you like Pittsburgh, but I certainly wouldn't trade places with you.
Look We've only got one freaking ring. Pittsburgh has what like six? I'm sure he wishes he lived in NOLA where Brees' talent is spiraling into the abyss and he and his birth mark will be phoning it in this season.
Trust me I'd much rather live in Pittsburgh, Flashdance and a health Roethlisberger.
Terrible Towels and Rolling Rock/Iron City >>>> Whistle Monster and Dixie from Wisconsin.

Elite in what way?
NOLA is just too dangerous in my opinion to visit there any longer.
I've been there, done that as they say.
It's just not worth the return trip due to the dangerous element that has seemingly infiltrated the tourist areas.

Wow

I'm constantly amazed at the lack of googling skills the general public is plague with today. You have to really go out of your way to play dumb these days.

oh, no no no no no. I wouldn't go to any City and pickup a airbnb listing without checking serious reviews/location etc. and especially if I weren't familiar with NOLA. Nope, don't care how nice that house looked in the pics.

You can find a place like August in Bunkie?
shite, let's even go a few rungs down. You can find a place like ROOT or Square Root in Eunice?
Gautreau's in St Francisville?
How about Shaya in Alexandria?
I mean frick Peche and Shaya have won NATIONAL James Beard awards, not just Southern region ones.
In terms of overall, yes NOLA is likely behind places like NYC, Chicago, SF. Those places of huge populations and huge amounts of money. But for a tiny city like NOLA it is exceptional, and none of those places have a truly unique culinary heritage.

That's all fair, I'm not trying to minimize crime here . Just get a kick out of the haters pretending we have some mundane dining scene.

Elite in this thread was strictly referring to culinarily.
Outside of that, yes there are a lot of problems. A lot of reasons to call us a shithole. It is what it is.
Anyone degrading the culinary scene probably waddled, to steal Reg's line, around the shitty FQ and has eaten at fricking ACME and got a poboy at Deanie's and said "Meh, overrated".

The food and restaurant scene in Las Vegas is equal to or better than New Orleans. The customer service in Vegas blows away what you receive in NOLA. Quite certain there are more activities/entertainment available at a fraction of the risk in Sin City, too.
Those national publications ranking which city is "best" for any given topic are worthless. You think the Washington Fishwrap has dined at 20+ restaurants in dozens of American cities? Those lists are as accurate as ESPN's football recruiting rankings.

id rather risk being killed than to pay Las Vegas prices. Vegas is so fricking cheesy

well you have less of a chance of getting your face eaten off by some tweaker in New Orleans than you are in Florida so there's that
Posted on 7/5/16 at 2:00 pm to Breesus
Even the most basic Google search would tell you "Nope".
I recognize New Orleans has a problem, but for shite's sake there is personal responsibility at play here.

I don't think it's wise to argue on a site dedicated to LA about whether or not NOLA is elite with regard to food.
Besides, who cares what randoms on a message board say at the end of the day.
