yeah except he dethroned the middle east thug that stabilized the region. Then fired everyone in the government which led to a vacuum of insecurity, which ended up creating AQI, which due to the inept security of Syria led to ISIS or ISIL from what party you lie on. Brilliant.

If we would have ignored it, not a fricking thing would have changed in our daily lives, just a slight bump in flu season deaths. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Iraq war alone makes him worst in at least 100 years.

But there were other issues as well. Shitty immigration policy, shitty trade policy, did nothing to reduce spending, massive expansion of surveillance powers, discrimination against the lgbt community.

Another thing: he set a bad example by NEVER standing up for himself against media attacks. He let bad actors in the press define him and walk all over him. He never defended himself. His weakness on this particular issue gave the media a tremendous sense of power in controlling national narratives that you now see today.

It's an underrated decade I think.

Absolutely. The early to mid 90s was the last of the free spirits. The world quickly became superficial in the latter part of the decade and has been there ever since.

George H was the last good president we had, George W was a significant downgrade.

I tend to agree with Steve Bannon that the W administration was the most destructive presidency of our time. The Iraq war destabilizing the Middle East, the financial crisis that began in September 2008, and allowing China to get away with outright economic warfare against us.

frick W. And his dad too.

I’m not sure it’s really possible for a huge nation to be fully prepared for a pandemic. Whatever “fully prepared” means exactly

Exactly. Let’s build facilities that may never get used or stockpile supplies with limited shelf life that may never get used.

I agree that is when this started. Cranked up during Obama years.

Damn. Like him, love him, or hate him GWB nailed that one. We were not prepared for a pandemic virus.

Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of the teeth if we had earmarked billions of dollars for pandemic preparation? That’s the problem when your country is 20T in debt. Things get pushed to the back burner that shouldn’t.

A reminder though - we JUST passed 10k deaths in the US today. Last year’s seasonal flu killed 37k. It’s all about perspective.

I know W isn’t liked by many and people consider him to be a bad president but I’ll always like the guy. There’s just something about him that makes me want to throw some hotdogs on the grill and have a beer and just talk.

So in 20 years nobody at the federal or state or local level actually prepared for the eventual pandemic?

Bush devised a plan for pandemics like the coronavirus. Trump is ignoring it.
