When I got my passport I didn't have an appointment. Just walked into the post office downtown with my docs and boom.

Don't go to the Post Office. Go to the Clerk of Court's office on Coursey, if you're in Baton Rouge. Way easier and more pleasant.

Not today, though, unless your vehicle is amphibious.

Of course, it will take 45 minutes to cross back over the bridge.

Go to the post office on Bluebonnet. Take a number and a really nice black lady will help you. Ask her about her grandkids and she will be extra helpful.
She took my photo 15 times before she had one she liked.

Why do you need an appointment to get a passport? I feel like it would be much easier to just walk into the post office when convenient to get a passport as opposed to making an appointment in the already limited five-hour, five-day-a-week window.
Consider that statment a few seconds.

Depending on what time of the year, which location, etc, there may NOT be any convenient, slow times that you would be able to just walk up.

My brother travels a lot, but it's usually to American territories like Puerto Rico. When he started going to other countries and needed to get his kids passports, he found it was actually very easy- one effective idea is to go to a smaller, rural post office to do it. Said he scheduled it, walked in and the place was quiet, and got back out in minutes.

My wife and I walked into the USPS yesterday and dropped off the passport application for our 16 month old. Didn't need an appointment and it took maybe 10 minutes.

Clerk of Courts office on Coursey. No appointment needed and they'll take your picture too.

I don't remember getting an appointment for my first passport. I've either renewed online or gone into a US embassy since getting my first.

I got my last one at the courthouse in Atlanta. Walked in and paid, gave them my stuff and that was it. You can't do that where you are? Took five minutes.

Its funny you mention that. We got ours from the BB office as well and she was pretty anal about her photo's. She later mentioned that customs is pretty strict on being able to see eye color in the photos. She must have taken at least five pictures of my wife and I.
