They have the same engine, it is why the GT4RS is such a big deal. It is down a little on HP due to packaging. Porsche also fixed the gearing giving the GT4RS much shorter gears. The main difference between these two cars now is downforce and the GT3RS's ability to bleed it off in the straights via DRS. The ability to change the diff settings on the fly is also an advantage. This set of cars just shows what 59 years of stubborn Teutonic engineering can do. The 911 chassis is just far better than it has any right to be and a huge part of that has come in the last 24 years and oddly coincided with the shift to water-cooled engines. The 993 was arguably the last widowmaker. The 911 has become a car that is easy to drive fast, it still has typical 911 traits but you have to be on the ragged edge for them to get squirrely.

The 911 in a nutshell. Porsche in fear of Porschephiles storming the gates of Stuttgart, they continue on with a known inferior chassis configuration to achieve the impossible at the highest level.

Riding in my old boss’ new 911 Turbo S was one of the highlights of my life.

The Cayman is a much better performance template, but the 911 is the “flagship” so they hold the 718 back.

The only caveat I would make is Chris Harris is better at performance car reviews. That said TG was never really a car show first but a buddy show.

I had the pleasure of chasing a ‘22 Shark Blue GT3 in my Mach 1 last track day. That thing was gorgeous.

It’s surprisingly fun - every time you get in. It NEVER gets old.

I daily drive a 992 and can confirm. Can't even imagine a GT3RS though. I'm sure it's amazing on the track, but probably not so great as a daily driver

All of the Internet press goes to the GT3RS. In my opinion for similar money the Turbo is arguably the better car. Definitely more livable and faster on the street than the GT3.

If I had to only pick between the GT4 & GT3 variants then I’ll be the crazy one to say the GT3 Touring. It’s more pure Posche looking to me and I can spare the half-second. Make mine Arena Red Metallic though.

I've owned both and the RS is an event to drive. It's hard to believe they are both from the same base car. You can feel the lightness of the GT3 and the sound is intoxicating. Just feels "race car". Minimal deadening and the everything about the car is loud. Even from the cup 2 tires spitting every pebble up into the plastic fender liners. My turbo S was a 2015 991.1 and not the new one, it was a more comfortable but way less exciting car to drive, great for a road trip though. I wish I could have both. They do say the 992 turbo has taken some out of the boring out of it. I owned a 2010 Nissan GT-R and the 991 turbo felt like a much nicer version of that. No sound and not great "soul"

Yep. Top Gear just isn’t Top Gear without Clarkson, Hammond and May.

It’s such a bizarre comparison, but seems like one that people naturally make as I do the same. The GTR is such a pig stock vs stock compared to a 991but holy fricking he’ll once you throw some power into it that damn Datson comes alive.
