Anchorage is a hell of a lot milder than most people think. It's weather is moderated by the Gulf of Alaska

I really don't know why people would want to move to Alaska and choose Anchorage though. It's close to some amazing areas but besides the mountains, it's like any mid sized city. Lots of crime in some neighborhoods too.

Lets just say one of those neighborhoods is the most diverse neighborhood in the USA. Lots of people from South Sudan and Somalia have been brought in, and crime is really high among pacific islanders.

Its like any place. Couple of bad neighborhoods and the rest is safe.
