Japan is a very male dominated society. While some of the world may find his statements odd and even sexist, the Japanese people probably don't even blink an eye at this.

I don't think this is the first time this topic has been brought up by a Japanese official. My timing may be off but something like this came up 6...7 yrs ago?

Actually, I think it is sort of the veiled running joke of the BBC comedy "2012" which was about the planning of the London Olympics.
