Toilet seat up or down debate with a twist

Living in a rent-house with all guys (4), is it acceptable to leave the toilet seat up? I mean as opposed to leaving it down for the womenfolk and just putting it up when you take a leak.
I say yes, but one of my roommates is apparently afraid he's going to fall in.

It's acceptable to leave the toilet seat in whatever fricking position you want, because people (adults) who bitch about it are idiots for blindly sitting on anything and should feel ashamed of themselves.

It's actually got two toilets, and both are in the same hallway ~10 feet from each other, but this princess refuses to use the other one because it's a lavatory/toilet deal instead of the full bathroom, even when he's not using the shower.

My policy is actually to leave it in whatever position it is in upon completing my business. I'm only 50/50 on putting the seat up to take a leak anyway.

just put both the seat and the lid down when you're done.
nobody has to worry about falling in but the person that wants the seat down still has to pick up the lid.

It's not the seat that is the problem. It's the lid.
It's a hygiene issue.
If you have particles of shite and piss flying up in the air when you flush, would you rather have a lid prevent some of those particles from coming in contact with your hand towels, soap, and dental supplies, or would you prefer it to be the wild fricking west?

smear some peanut butter on the underside of the seat front and close the lid and seat. Be ready with your camera for posterity.

I'm female with a son and several nephews. I honestly don't care if I find the toilet seat left up, just as long as it's not left down and peed on. 
As far as what I do myself, I usually close the lid before flushing, 'cause I read an article once about the amount of toilet water "spray" that gets all over the bathroom when you flush.
I'll do my part to try and prevent those germs from spreading, but I know it's a lost cause to try and get others to do the same.

I always leave the seat down, because i don't have a problem pissing in the toilet when it's down.
