No parent should have to lay to rest a child. Your boy was lucky to have you, and you lucky to have your boy.

My condolences!
I have a son with spina bifida and other complications. We were told he would probably only make 16, but he is almost 32 now!! Enjoy the blessing of having him for the time you did. Honor his memory. Sounds like a fine man!

Condolences brother. No person should have to bury a child.
I have seen the devastation that CF can bring. A close friend of mine had a niece and an old classmate had a daughter they lost to cystic fibrosis. The niece was in her early 30s, I think about 20 years ago, the daughter was in her twenties and that was probably 10-15 years ago. They have made progress toward extending a person's life but it almost always ends with a parent grieving their child.
I wish I could offer more than condolences. To your son Jeff![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

average life expectancy at this time was 16 to 18 years. God gave us and him a tremendous cross to bear. He made it to the age of 42.
I’m sorry for your loss. It’s probably not any consolation but if there’s a silver lining to be grateful for it’s the fact you got to spend 26 more years with him than you originally expected

My heart aches with yours and your spouse’s. I am 74 also, have a son also born in 1981. He has crohn’s, has had several significant surgeries; he is married and has two boys of his own. We are thankful for every minute.

Praying for some peace and comfort Purplehaze.
And fallguy, did this friend have a last name that is a type of large bird or construction equipment. What a battle he had.

So sorry to hear this man. I had 2 cousins with CF. One was also born in 1981 and made it to 36. I would be willing to bet he crossed paths with your son as he spent the majority of his time between Lafayette/Tomball/Houston and was big into fundraisers and whatnot to raise awareness/$ for research. Prayers will be sent for you and your family.

Losing a child no matter what age is a traumatic experience. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Purplehaze, I don't have time to read the whole thread. I just wanted to say my heart goes out to you. This world can be so messed up, and so many people neglect their kids. It sounds like your son won the lottery with the loving parents he had for 42 years.
