I just need to vent. I’m on my way to Tuscaloosa where my son is buried. My plot is right beside him.

My wife is driving because honestly I can fight these tears and drive. This isn’t right. It should have been me and not my son. How I wish I could trade places with him. He had so much life.

I stood by him and watched him die. He looked at me and we locked eyes as he took his last breath. That was so damn hard. I fought for him too and tried everything. But he died. I watched him he born and I watched him die. That’s stayed with me and still haunts my dreams. I was supposed to be able to protect him but in the end I could not.

I am generally an upbeat beat person but so many times I have to force myself to smile. He had two younger brothers. I can’t imagine how hard this is on them. I hate it.

My son was a Christian and I know I’ll see him again. But man I do not understand how and why God let this happen. I never will understand.

Saying a prayer for you and your family. My wife and I lost twin boys (stillborn at 33 weeks) just over 2 years ago. There isn't a day that goes by that they aren't missed, and I know that will be true in 2 years, 12 years, 20 years.

We wouldn't grieve so heavily if we didn't love so much. Lifting you up today, and know that sadly there are many others out here doing our best to make it day by day just like you are.

I can’t imagine. Literally.

Or perhaps I just don’t want to.

Blessings on you and your family, Ted.

Ted I can't imagine

What a man you are for your family. I know it doesn't make you feel any better, but it sounds like you're leading your family the way most of us aspire to do.

I'm so sorry, man. My grandmother lost a son when he was a teenager, in a car wreck, and she never got over it. Lived to be 95 and still cried whenever someone said his name. Sending some healing thoughts you way.

Who knows whose lives you may touch and strengthen through what your family has faced? Pass your son's fighting courage on to others who need to draw strength in the face of uncertainty. I assure you that your son is sending you that Eternal Strength he has taken hold of today so that you can be a voice of hope to people who've lost hope in the same struggles:

May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you

Sorry Ted.

I am at a loss for any profound words of wisdom, or comfort.

I wish you strength, when needed, today.

Leaving Tuscaloosa now. Bittersweet day filled with awesome memories and deep sorrow.

I drove by Bryant-Denny and thought of my boy. We moved to Tuscaloosa when he was 7 when I went to the University of Alabama. This was during the Shula years. My boy loved Bama football instantly, in-spite of the not so good teams we had.

He absolutely loved it when Saban became our coach. He loved going to the games with me. He had a ton of Bama gear. He loved his Crimson Tide. He was a good fan. He cheered his team and was respectful to fans of other teams. I loved watching the games with him. I wish he could have seen his team win these 6 national Championships. But he passed away before that amazing 2009 season.

When we had his headstone designed I wanted something that meant a lot to him. I picked this. I thought it was elegant in it’s simplicity and I think my son would have loved it:

Roll Tide, my beautiful son.

Bama basketball just won the regular season SEC Championship game. Poetic for me they won it today. My son must be smiling!
