heard of. I know i didnt.
Philadelphia, PA — Thirty-five years ago today, one of the most blatant acts of terrorism was carried out on American soil against American citizens by an American police department. Obviously, this is the one terror attack the government won’t remind you about — and, in fact, would prefer you forget completely.

They dropped C-4 into a neighborhood from a helicopter.

The citizens were black radicals so the OT won't be too interested in this.

Thought this was going to be about the Tulsa Riots, but that one was fricked up too.

Crazy how few people know about either of those incidents

Bill Burr assured me that the terrorists would never attack those people because they were fricking worthless.

I do remember it because it made the news in Houston Texas. It got several days coverage. The reason the block got attacked got limited coverage, but the horror of the spread of the flames was presented memorably.

At that time, I'd never been to Philly. Since then, I have been there and I have wondered whatever happened to that neighborhood. Much of the rest of the city is just tragic wallowing in neglect...great stone buildings (homes that were)...incomplete windows and dead landscaping.

The mayor and the police chief were AA too, so not newsworthy.

Well that is a bit dramatic.

While the PD fricked up, it wasn't a "terrorist attack" by any definition of the term. Without reading that link, I am guessing they don't discuss that those radicals barricaded that block and were shooting at the police. That they had multiple opportunities to surrender and chose not to or that they shot at the firefighters when they tried to put the flames out.

Before anyone freaks out, I am not defending the practice of dropping improvised devices from helicopters. That shouldn't have happened. But the intent was to knock a hole in the roof so they could drop tear gas into the structure. Not to kill people and certainly not to start a fire. Source? I know one of the guys who was there and was consulted on building the device (he was a bomb squad guy). He told them it was a bad idea but they didn't listen.

The whole thing was fricked up but the article is shite bc of the bias.

I was young then and the article doesn't go into details, but why was the move house being raised? What did they do wrong besides protesting?

I'm not being a smart arse, generally curious why the police were set to raid and arrest them.

I guess the word "terrorism" really doesn't mean anything anymore.

Reportedly, two one ~1 lb bombs were dropped. Those bombs caused a fire due to a generator being housed on the roof. The authorities would not allow the fire to be put out due to security concerns.

Agreed, but not a terrorist attack.
