re: To call Child Protective Services or not?

BELIEVE THIS... CPS may be OK for the worst, most flagrant, clear-cut and obvious child abuse cases, but NOT for anything that requires just a little wisdom to discern what's actually going on and determine what effective steps are needed to insure a child's best interest ...without possibly making things much worse than before. I have seen the most ignorant, incompetent work, and the complete inability to properly assess sensitive situations from CPS case workers than from any other department of our state's government employees. I pity any child whose life should fall into their hands. Really sad that some stupid, stupid, people are given jobs that should have some of the highest standards of all IMO.

Anyone who says you should call CPS hasn't dealt with CPS. They have total authority and operate outside of the law.
I just tried to make this point. Not only what you say, but they are for the largest part, sheer and utter, unmitigated, dribbling idiots who have no business making decisions for caged house pets, much less for children.

Why don't you offer to help instead of debating about whether to ruin people's lives?

Every CPS worker I've ever seen are fat, obese, and just disgusting to look at. I wouldn't want them looking after any child I know. As a group, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Well, I don't come here to read positive input that makes sense... but best idea yet. Make friends w/parents, set example, offer help, etc, ...or at least try. Things like this can make the difference in someone's life. I've seen it work several times myself.

Which Denham Springs trailer park do you live in?

No phone calls. You will be on hold forever.
Anonymous report on internet. Give their address (not yours). Just state what you said in the OP. Make the report vague but get your point across.
They'll look into it. If there is nothing they will leave it. Sounds very trashy and sketchy.

Can you give us some daily updates before school starts? This thread might be a good follow.

Should I stay out of it or call CPS for the kids safety?
Will his situation be better or worse if his family is destroyed?

Now, when someone calls CPS, even if it is not you, the boy's parents will blame you.

Do you happen to have kids of a similar age that they could hang out with?
Obviously you aren't doing a damn thing if you're hanging out at the house while you're observing this. Maybe they could make friends with your children if you have any.

I think you posted bc your gut told you to request a check on the household. I don't mess with childrens' safety. I'd request a check.

Definitely call CPS. WHo in their right mind would let their son wear Uggs?
Solid advice right there.

Call the cops immediately. A second grader has no business babysitting first grader.
Don't listen to these morons saying do nothing, they probably don't have kids and live off welfare themselves. But by God, if this was a dog tied to a tree they'd be screaming for the po-po and animal humane society.

I agree kids that young should not spend an 8hr workday home alone.
But if they are alone just for the 1.5hrs between the end of school and when the parents get home from work, I'd be a little less concerned.
