One of my best friend's wife and her best friend are celebrating their birthday this weekend; Cinco de mayo weekend to be exact. Most people would sip margs, turn up, and hit tequila all weekend since it is cinco de mayo and derby weekend. However, my friend thought it best to go way over to Fredericksburg, TX aka Wine Country.

Nonetheless, he told us about this roughly a week and a half ago. Out of 31 people he invited, only 6, including him, his wife, and his wife's best friend, said yes. Prices for the airbnb are $200/person. We all mostly live in DFW area and Fred., TX is roughly 4 hours away. Expenses will be food and drinking and some shuttle bus for $30/person that takes you from winery to winery.

Question: Do you still get the birthday girl (girls in this case) a gift even thought you're going way over to this place to celebrate with them? Or is going to celebrate with them enough to count?

ETA: Per request, of the six people (7 including me), 5 of them are females. Only one is married (best friend and his wife). One is my best friends female cousin, she likes women. I have history with the wife's best friend, might rock it out.

Yes. You must not be married.

No present necessary, who are the other 2, and pics.

I’m not reading all of that. Just buy a gift to be on the safe side.

Pics would help us determine whether you should get a gift.

But since its Cinco de Mayo, just buy a bottle of Tito's and some margarita mix.

Edit: tequila, not Tito's. I would be a terrible bartender

Your presence is the perfect present for a nice 3 way.

Will need pics of all women involved to suggest appropriate party gifts.

A card and a drink (and a generic toast).

You're already doing a lot by going.

Go on the trip, see which wine she likes the most. Buy one and give it to her after y'all get back home.

I'm not sure what's proper etiquette, but I've never had any expectations for gifts at a birthday celebration for myself or my wife. I don't typically give a gift either.

Maybe I'm trashy?

I'd maybe get everyone not celebrating a birthday to come together and split the dinner check one night. That's about it.

I've never been a "buy birthday presents for friends" person though.

I don't buy adult friends birthday gifts. I may pick up a dinner tab or bar tab, but I'm not going to a store and picking out a gift for an adult.

Why would you buy vodka for margaritas.
