Imagine that. Some doctors are generous, some doctors are just ok, some doctors are just assholes. It’s almost like they’re like every other American.

And maybe those doctors late because they’re dealing with jackasses like Xcalibur who no-show and still be expected to be seen on their time.

The only ppl disagreeing and moaning and groaning over my comments are the ppl in the med field. Do you think you are the only industry that gets no shows and cancellations. Funny Bc I don’t recall my mechanic ever bitching about me not showing up for an oil change. Get over it. It happens in every industry, but y’all are the only industry that thinks y’all are good enough to charge for a cancellation or no show. Y’all are not - reality check!

You're really pissed about that $20.

To all the doctors in the OT that think y’all are in demand and think y’all are higher than mighty and your sh** don’t stink....if you think you can charge patients $20, $50, or $100 for missing or canceling an appt - especially Bc of a unscheduled work meeting or whatever reason, y’all are ridiculous and out of control and can kiss my a**
I don’t care what kind or how much education you had- you are a dime a dozen. Know that!!
You are not in demand like you think you are!
Have a good day

This is a really sad and pathetic post.

I've had to cancel at the last minute but always offer to pay my co-pay because it was my fault and try to reschedule.

You should not have to do this, but the gesture is nice...a simple call should suffice.

But I've also sat in the waiting room for way too long after my appointment time.

I hope you have a physician that realizes how important it is to run as close to on-time as possible. If I am behind, it is not because I'm screwing around, and I'm going to acknowledge the inconvenience to the patient, explain myself and move on from there.

The age-old question about multi-booking appt. slots makes some folks scratch their heads, but the fact of the matter is that people want and need to be seen in a timely fashion, so is it better to wait 6 weeks to get an appt, or possibly wait an extra 15 minutes or 1/2 hour in the office?

If a physician has multiple rooms and efficient staff, the the time demand from multi-booking of appt slots can be mitigated. There are certain bottlenecks that are difficult to get around such as multiple patients checking in at the same time and updating patient charts (patient paperwork or database entry). Patient self data entry can help as does the practice in my office of trying to manage the type of appts that are made close together. Problem is can't always predict how appts turn as far as time, and trying to predict what happens on the hospital side can be impossible - my office is in a hospital complex, so this helps with that issue. I like to think that most of us operate in good faith in this regard, I know that I certainly do.

Making an appt is not a contract and if it is why are other industries not charging cancelling or re-scheduling fees?

Plumbers, electrician, mechanics will charge you just for coming to your house to give you a quote.

It’s called a “call out” charge. They will also charge you if you cancel a scheduled apt

Some restaurants will do the same if you cancel a reservation

I didn't say that. They are either grade-A awesome or grade-A awful... There is no in between.

Why are you so angry? You must be the grade-A awful. The type that doesn't listen to their patients and leaves devices in people after surgery.

Pretty astounding that someone can walk through life not realizing this.

Doctors aren't developing this strategy for no reason out of thin air. It's because they are observing a pattern of patient behavior that is losing them money. Doctors obviously wish to discourage this, not insult patients.

If their cancellation fee policy ends up hurting business more, they will stop. Most likely, it will not offend most people, and their cancellation rate will go down.

They are using their gas and driving out to you
If they provide a quote to you and charge you for that, no problem. That is work being performed. You do not have a valid argument.

Well that’s just it. If business is good and are in demand, their head will be nice and filled along with their bank account so they don’t need you. If it’s a young doctor trying to establish themselves, you won’t see this. And really, most doctors stopped implementing that policy. It’s the ones that still do it that need a reality check and retire

I'm sorry but there's no room for good sound logic like the above on the OT.. 2 points deducted..
