The CEO owner of the company went on the expedition because it probably made the billionaires feel better knowing the owner did his due diligence in safety. Guess that wasn’t enough

Still safer than driving.

Can't believe no one on board the mother vessel doesn't have one of these.

Coast Guard just released a statement that the sub (if it's still intact) has approx. 40 hours of air left.

If they recover this thing intact after the air is gone I'd imagine there will be some videos recorded on phones. I wonder what state of mind they are in if still alive.

don't think I'd want to see that

Depends on the situation. Bet it’s pure chaos. If they did float to the surface all alive but can’t open the hatch for fresh out would be the ultimate nightmare. To be that close and still die. Someone would turn on the CEO. Go crazy.

WHO IS ON BOARD?
* HAMISH HARDING. The British billionaire and chairman of aviation company Action Aviation is among those missing, according to his stepson. Dubai-based Harding had posted on social media that he was proud to be heading to the Titanic as a "mission specialist".
"Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023," he said.
Harding was also on board the 2019 "One More Orbit" flight mission that set a record for the fastest circumnavigation of earth by aircraft over both geographic poles.
* SHAHZADA DAWOOD and his son SULEMAN. Their family have confirmed they are on board. Shahzada, 48, is vice chairman of one of Pakistan's largest conglomerates, Engro Corporation, with investments in fertilisers, vehicle manufacturing, energy and digital technologies. According to the website of SETI, a California-based research institute of which he is a trustee, he lives in Britain with his wife and two children.
His son Suleman, aged 19, is a university student. Both are British citizens.
* PAUL-HENRI NARGEOLET. The 77-year-old French explorer, whom media say is one of the five on board, is director of underwater research at a company that owns the rights to the Titanic wreck. A former commander in the French Navy, he was both a deep diver and a mine sweeper. After retiring from the navy, he led the first recovery expedition to the Titanic in 1987 and is a leading authority on the wreck site. In a 2020 interview with France Bleu radio, he spoke of the dangers of deep diving, saying: "I am not afraid to die, I think it will happen one day."
* STOCKTON RUSH. The founder and CEO of the vessel's U.S.-based operating company OceanGate is also on the submersible, according to media reports.
"It is an amazingly beautiful wreck," Rush told Britain's Sky news of the Titanic. "Rush became the youngest jet transport rated pilot in the world when he obtained his DC-8 Type/Captain’s rating at the United Airlines Jet Training Institute in 1981 at the age of 19," according to his biography on OceanGate's website.

That's too many damn people for that tiny little tube.
I can't believe people look at that thing and go "yep, I think I'll let you bolt me up inside of this tube with 6 other people and send me to the bottom of the ocean to look at the most photographed rusty arse old boat ever on the ocean floor"

Maybe becoming a dad has neutered me but just thinking about what would be going through Shahzada's mind while he looks at his son... it's legitimately upsetting to even consider.

USCG Sycamore is up in the Labrador Sea. Its an ocean going buoy tender doing drills with Denmark. Be a shame it didnt help

Yeah, I can’t imagine what would be worse. Bobbing around on the top of the water, slowly running out of air, and nobody is able to find you. Or stuck on some underwater cliff, or got too close to the ship and got hooked somehow, and stuck at the bottom where they know they’ll run out of air without ever being saved.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they start killing each other once the air starts running low
Posted on 6/20/23 at 1:40 pm to UFownstSECsince1950
This may have been talked about, but is it absolutely necessary that they had to bolt the thing shut from the outside? Surely there could have been another way.
