I was thinking a 2001ish Tacoma...anybody have suggestions for an older truck that is built solid that I could pay cash for.

Older, reliable trucks cost a lot of money.
Best thing to do is take good care of your current truck and pay it off.
Then make your paid off truck your older, reliable truck

Trucks hold their values pretty well. In most cases you do better buying a new truck over a slightly used truck.

I own a 2000 Tundra. Never had a mechanical issue after 160k miles

Im gonna get an old 1970 K20 soon. I want a truck with no computers incase of an EMP blast and end of the world scenario

Why not pay off your current truck and keep it till the wheels fall off?

How much cash you looking to spend?

Just do the usual stuff. Check the service records. For a 2001, you'll want to see that regular maintenance has been kept throughout the life of the vehicle. If you're in a small town, the chances are the owner had his service done at one place. Ask them to provide you what they've got on the truck's maintenance.
When you've found the truck you're looking for, before you purchase, have a mechanic you're familiar with inspect the car. Takes a little less than an hour and is worth the money if you're about to make a purchase.

I had a 2007 Yukon with 269K miles. The GM 5.3L motor is good but make sure you change/check the oil regularly.
Just bought a 2013 RAM 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI. Hoping that with proper maintenance I can get 10 years out of it.

Just sold a 2004 Tundra that I put 210,000 miles on for pretty cheap. Never had one issue with it. Your loss.

Pay for the Carfax. A lot of trucks out there have been wrecked. It also provides some service records, though limited in scope.
I just replaced the 19 year old extra cab Dakota with a 2005 Frontier crew cab. It is good not to have a note.
You also have to decide if you want big or smaller. What will you use it for?

get a mid 90's Ford F-150 with the inline 300 six cylinder.
It'll last forever....
expect to pay around 2,500

Depends really on your particular situation....
you have a good truck, so if possible, I would finish paying off the one that you have and drive it for the next 20 years.

Any of them if you have the cash. What type of budget?

best bet would be find something owned by an older person. my grandparents have a 10 year old truck with like 50k miles on it. it's in pristine shape.
in my experience, most trucks built in the 2000s will last a long time if maintained properly. the less bells and whistles it has, less stuff to fix. i wouldn't pay out the A for a 2001 taco. you could probably get a tundra for same price. also don't ignore the domestics. my last truck was 15 years old with 250k miles on it with no major mechanical issues. current is 6 years old and still no problems. both gm trucks.

Any Tacoma that has been taken care of should fit the bill for you. Bullet proof small trucks.

You don't belong on the OT or the OB. They love trading trucks every few months.

This has crossed my mind, but something else that worries me is when something finally breaks out of warranty you just cannot work on these newer trucks on your own...I was thinking on an older vehicle I'll just run down to autozone and spend an afternoon fixing it
