Very rarely do attorneys go after someone insured if they have minimum coverage and really no assets. They will run a check on her and determine it’s not worth it because the likelihood of collecting will be so low.

The lawyer is going to take that shite.
“The lawyer” isn’t deciding to take shite; your brother might. It’s pathetic to me that people won’t take responsibility for their own decisions and instead want to blame their big bad lawyer

But what if someone does have assets and over $150k in home equity for instance? Would attorneys then go after that if the opportunity presents itself?

With the amount of uninsured drivers and the vast majority that are only have minimal liability,
I’ve been involved in two accidents in my lifetime. One was my fault back in 08. I had worked 40hrs straight and was driving home from Lafayette and dosed off on I12 and tapped the back of the car in front of me. I had the cruise on at 72, he was driving below the speed limit in the left hand lane. I “came to” with enough time to hit the brakes and still tapped his bumper. Still, my fault, but driving around 60 in a 70 in the left hand lane…. I called the cops. We got out of the cars and I checked to make sure he was okay. He was. Sitting outside leaning up against the car. When I told him I called the police he got really nervous. Started asking me why, etc. cops showed up, gave them my info, went to get his. He, no shite, did a flop that would’ve made LeBron look like Gary Oldman. “Oh my back. Ag-oh-nee!”
The cop was pissed. He had no insurance. They had to call ambulance. They still tried to sue my policy even though I thought Louisiana was a no play no pay state. Had an adjuster come out and look at my car. It broke the license plate bracket. That’s it.
Second one was last spring. Lady sideswiped my wife’s car on the interstate while she was bringing the kids to school. Wife thankfully did not lose control of the car and was able to pull off the road. Apparently more than one Good Samaritan called the police and gave them the license plate of the car that hit my wife.
State police had the plates, confirmed the identity. I can pull it up on my app right now and see her address. She had no insurance. No arrest for hit and run, nothing. And I was out my deductible to pay for the damages.
Louisiana is a cesspool. I really am thinking about leaving.
