Sure.
But his point was the make sure your insurance coverage is commiserate with what you stand to lose in the event you frick someone up.
His delivery kinda sucked but that was pretty obvious what he was getting at.
If you’re OT rich, make sure you’re covered enough to not have to worry about becoming OT poor.

You keep referencing your BIL's potential recovery, so people keep countering with reality. Accept that reality and you can go on about your PSA to have resonable limits on your insurance coverage unabated.
OP definitely sucks at communicating his point, but he’s talking about the potential recovery to illustrate that a person who has significant recoverable assets needs to be properly insured because you could be staring down the barrel of a 500k judgment and only have 75k in coverage.
Not everyone is aware of that, or maybe they just never really thought about updating their coverages despite being much wealthier now than they were when they originally bought their policy 15 years ago.
I had a friend ask me for advice on exactly this years ago. Smart, successful guy, but totally ignorant in this area of life. He had a very good, high compensation job but was carrying barely above state minimums. He didn’t know any better.

I'm not looking to recover a damn thing. Y'all bullshite dogshit lawyers are trying to make this something that it isn't. I'm saying people should up their liability coverage with the auto insurer.
You responded to me, and asked why the lawyer wouldn’t go after anything beyond applicable coverage limits. I answered you.

Also, since we are talking about odds and such, take UGA +1100 to win it all this year at Fanduel.
Nobody has addressed this take from the OP.

What happens if you’re the lady with the 15k min coverage but you actually have 3 mil in liquid assets in this scenario?
Then you pay. But the amount of people in that situation is pretty much zero. No one who has 3million in liquid assets is dumb enough to only have minimum limits.

You’re going to lose to ND or TT.

Generally speaking, yes. But there are definitely some people out there who are underinsured relative to their assets. I’ve had this exact conversation with friends who didn’t grasp the fact that they needed to actively increase their coverage as their assets grew.
Maybe they had a retarded agent who didn’t educate them and try to sell them on upping their limits idk. But it happens.

Sounds like another great reason to quit my job, file for all the benefits, not have insurance, and when I frick over someone’s life just hit them with the whoopsie and move on. I’ll probably get some stimulus checks along the way for not contributing
And there you have about 75% of the population it seems. Notice how no one ever gets hit by someone with a 2.5 million umbrella policy. Know why, responsible people don't drive like morons.

While you're at it, get an umbrella policy.

unless the law has changed and I missed it, your auto UM coverage does not require you to be in your car to provide coverage. You can be standing on a curb and get run over by an uninsured illegal, and your UM will pay. Raise your limits on all coverage.

He and his passenger were like, “we’re going to the gas station. We’ll be right back”.
Happened to my daughter in nola this year. Totaled her crv. Clearly she was at fault. A band of our southern friends got out and told her “it ok. We leave friend. It ok. Bye”. She called the cops and filed a report. Insurance was baffled they left. They thought she was trying to cover up something. I showed them police report and finally had to tell them “look, can you really not figure this out as to why they left the scene?

And UM umbrella as well. Not just liability.

No thanks. I don’t drive like an a-hole and pay cash for vehicles so carry minimum to be legal.
Been driving for 30 years. No accidents, no claims.

Down voted. While factually correct, your tone and delivery was horrible.
