The thing about that is that it's more expensive to put someone on death row, go through the proceedings, and execute them. It's cheaper to just put them in prison for life. Significantly cheaper.

Plus life imprisonment seems like a far worse fate in my view. I'd rather be killed that have to deal with max security for the rest of my life

What's the holdup? How come all the scumbags on Death Row still have a heartbeat after years and years of incarceration? This is a joke! You take an innocent life and yours' should be taken as well. Prison reform, my arse! The death penalty should serve as a deterrent, not as an assisted living accommodation.
Appeals, man. Appeals.
Truthfully, since there has been evidence after the fact that proved people who have been executed were actually innocent, the death penalty is a little scary. I'm pro death penalty btw, but it should be used in cases where the evidence is completely irrefutable such as video evidence. The death penalty probably shouldn't be sought on many homicides.

So are some in basic lockup. Guess we better release them all.
I see your point, but locking someone up and killing them are two different things. Don't you think?

Like if someone would have witnessed the thug who killed the truck driver yesterday and pointed him out in a lineup...I would say fry the MF!
And what happens when the person who picked them out of a lineup is found to be a crackhead who would say anything if pointed towards it? Some guy just happened to be in the neighborhood and looked like the perp? The government can't, or shouldn't rather, just kill a citizen based on "well, I mean, we're pretty sure."

Always wondered why they didn't just shoot em full of large doses of morphine.

With scientific advances, couldn't someone come up with a device, drug or machine that can force people to tell the truth? I know sodium pentathol was deemed cruel or unethical, but I'm sure there are other ways.
So you take someone professing innocence and put them through a round of the truth process. If they pass, they can be freed. If they fail, they are put to death immediately. An ultimate appeal process. Plus it can be televised, so that it all pays for itself..

Why even have a "death row", if we don't use it for what it's intended for?????
Posted on 8/9/17 at 9:41 am to Lutcher Lad
Because we all are granted due process.
Sure, it might take longer than most of us would like to hang these guys, but the delays rest in the courts and with the attorneys so they should shoulder the blame.

The court costs/appeal process for inmates on death row is not.

With all the stories of planting evidence and falsifying DNA tests I don't think I'm strongly for the death penalty anymore.
Pretty much everybody on death row already has a bunch of other stuff on their record so even if they didn't do the murder they're not innocent

After going back and forth over the years, I am now again against the death penalty. The states should not be in the business of putting people to death. Especially since some small few are innocent. Life in prison is a better and cheaper option IMO.

Because of the innocent ones that are on death row. Could you imagine being put to death for a crime you did not commit?

It's getting harder for states to find the drug. 2 legitimate manufacturers have also refused to supply it for the purpose of executions.

The truth?
Too many pockets being padded keeping them alive.
US prisons = big business.
