Read about the trial and execution of Cameron Todd Willingham. If you still want government bureaucrats to be allowed to pursue death sentences, I question your sanity.

Typically in a criminal trial it's not the government, but rather the jury that makes those decisions.

Juries base their decisions on the facts given to them. Government prosecuters vs. undertrained overworked government indigent defense attorneys often yield results not in line with reality.

You know why rich dudes don't get the death penalty?

Each time the death penalty is carried out, it is always a deterrent for at least one person

I think the worst case error % in the OP has it at 4.1%, so you're statement above is utter bullshite. Show me another segment of society that has a 95.9 percent success rate.

How many rich dudes do you know of, who were charged with capital murder? I can't cite the statistic, but I'd have to guess rich dudes commit maybe one in 10,000 murders? One in 100,000? I would think that to be much more the reason we don't hear much about rich dudes getting the death penalty.

If you don't like the concept of due process you should move to Saudi Arabia.

When you are talking about an irreversible punishment the acceptable error rate is 0%.

They probably are a very small part of the population, but that does not mean their is not huge inequality in the justice system. When you are dealing with literally life and death, you cannot allow a tolerance for that.

When you are talking about reality and the human condition rather than some utopian dream, a 95.9% success rate is fantastic.

Do the bleeding hearts ever thing about the error rate regarding accused murderers going free, and going on to murder again? Or how about murderers who could have been executed but are spared and go on to kill a fellow inmate, a guard, or civilians during an escape/attempt? There are some things that could realistically have a 0% error rate.

What's the holdup? How come all the scumbags on Death Row still have a heartbeat after years and years of incarceration? This is a joke! You take an innocent life and yours' should be taken as well. Prison reform, my arse!
if you're on death row you're not getting reformed. You're arguing against yourself

Honestly, going to prison has to be worse then death. You are surrounded by the worst segment or society 24/7. This segment has already proved that they don't care to follow the rules, so who knows what you will encounter while you are there. If it's me, and I'm given the choice between life in prison or death. I'd pick the death penalty every time.

Agreed, Im against the death penalty because I see it as the easy way out compared to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Thats the real punishment for me.

OK, a dude rapes and beheads your daughter. You catch him as he's finishing. What happens next?

There should be at least 2 categories for convicted murderers. One for those where incontrovertible physical and forensic evidence of them committing the crime, and one for the rest. Those on the first list cannot appeal their conviction on technicalities that arose at trial, unless it directly refutes the evidence used to convict.

It always amazes me when people who despise our state govt have absolute faith that they will only convict and put to death the people that are actually guilty.

Serious question for you- how many dead innocent death penalty recipients are acceptable to you?

1? 2? 10? 20?

Yeah, but the majority of them are 100%, provably, demonstrably guilty of the crime, and no other possible guilty party exists. Why are those folks on assisted living for decades?

Or in the event of non-dna/video proof they can just live out their lives in prison. Still horribly shitty for an innocent person to suffer through but it's better than being dead.

If more than 4 out of every 100 people on death row are innocent that is absolutely pathetic
