Is there an argument the PGA has failed their obligation to increase minority participation in tournaments after Tiger Woods?

Obviously you don't play golf nor pay attention to who is best dressed on every public course

You need to look around at a Golf Course, there are many minorities represented.

I think Owlie works at one.

tl/dr: Stupid OP is stupid, don't care.

When are the NBA and NFL going to step up and push for equal representation on the court/field?

Golf is a meritocracy.

Qualify for open tournament.

Play.

I think it's the PGA's duty to be accepting of minorities, but why would they have any obligation to increase minority participation?

If minorities want to golf, and are good enough to make the Master's... good for them.

And without looking at who is actually in, I doubt they're all white. Probably some Asians, right?

It's not the PGA's responsibility to incorporate people based on skin color.

Sports like skiiing, snowboarding, golf, tennis, hockey, etc... can be really expensive to play and require lots of equipment. Inner city kids cannot afford the cost, which is why you don't see very many minorities involved in those sports.

They do however thrive on the sports that require pretty much only one ball (basketball & football).

Just pulling a percentage out of my arse, but if 90% of the people who play golf are not minorities, then why would anyone expect the Masters to have a ton of minorities playing in it?

It is ultimately about access. How many public schools field golf teams? I'm not eve sure any do. Absent a school program, golf is pretty damn expensive to learn.
I agree there is a cost barrier, like hockey--why sports like soccer and basketball can thrive in poorer areas.

HOWEVER, most of the public schools in my area growing up had golf teams, and these weren't very big and/or wealthy school districts.

If you are good enough and qualify, you get a shot. There is no affirmative in golf or baseball. There are some things in this country that are not just handed out to people because of their race

There's is also the issue whether or not minority groups (like BLM) have standing to sue to compel the PGA to act, or even seek damages for their failure to do so.

I think I pay a shite load of money to play golf. The notion that it should be cheaper for black people pisses me off.

Read all 5 pages and no one mentioned the #1 killer of black participation in golf: The Golf Cart.

In the 1970's, there were as many as 12 black touring pros, and they were almost all former caddies. Now, Tiger is the only one, and he's all but retired.

Caddie programs were the entry to the game for poor and working class blacks and whites. Now, there are very few clubs with caddies left, and most of those are supplied by third party management companies who hire college kids and aspiring golf pros to fill those roles.
