What kind of frickery happens in the attic, where they’ve been neatly stored since last season, causes them to fail every single year? Infuriating. Dad rant over.

Your wife's boyfriend probably went up there and pissed on them when you were on the patch Baw

I’m to the point of just buying the cheapest lights I can find and throwing them away after I take them down.

Troubleshooting a bad bulb is frustrating as hell

If your lights are LEDs the extreme heat (and humidity) in an attic over the summer months can damage the electronic components in the diodes.

This is 2024. Nothing is manufactured to last. Everything is manufactured to maximize profit. Free market is the only option. But this is a result of it.

I just plug the downspouts and burn a little kerosene in the gutters. Gives off very nice holiday vibes.

My great grandmother use to tell us that tinsel was expensive so they put it on the tree and took it off strand by strand lol

I've got some old school vintage bubble lights that have lasted for 40 freaking year.

I like my tree to look like they did back in the day. I honestly have less trouble with the c7 and c9 lights.

It’s a conspiracy by the big Christmas light corporations. It has to be, because that crap happens every year. I’m trying LED net lights in my bushes this year for the first time. We will see how many sets work next year. I’m hoping they will fair better, though.

Also, I highly recommend getting one of these. It has saved me from replacing entire strands of lights. It doesn’t always solve the problem, but it does so enough to make it well worth having.

Every damn year. But get you one of these. I picked one up 5 years ago and it’s a life changer. Saved so much time.

ETA: Lol two recs in a row.

Undoubtedly there’s probably a YouTube about a guy who invented Christmas lights capable of lasting generations, but “Big Christmas” came along and threatened him and his family, tried to forcibly buy him out, and all the while he fought in vain until mysteriously dying in a questionable accident.

My attic is pretty well insulated and strands still crap out.

We have a cool little business that you can pay each year to put them up and take them down. They also store the lights for you. Not a bad deal.

20 bucks on Amazon, I spray this on my Halloween and Christmas stuff each year before I store them and when I take them out; it makes cheap electronics work for years. Spray on Connections, battery compartments, anywhere you see corrosion or moisture.

I installed a rod I can easily take on and off between joists in my attic and I used it to hang my lights on instead of throwing them in a giant rubber made tote. Sonsabitches still have issues when I pull them out.

You insulate your attic between the roof and the attic floor? I've never heard of that but, damn, that's nice!

That's why the good people of Livingston Parish are smarter than you.

They just leave theirs up and turn them one sometimes.

Have my dad’s old c7 and v9 for outside.

Still going strong about 40 or more years.

Every single modern light I’ve bought the last 20 years haven’t lasted more than a year or 2.

But people love to buy crap now so it makes people happy they don’t last.
