Feel free to stay at home as long as you like. The best time to end this bullshite was a month ago.

Not a single person who is still advocating for staying home can tell you when they think we should go back out again.

They just whine and cry about people being selfish, then turn around and complain that they are still having to pay rent and bitching at the rich because people are getting laid off from businesses they insist stay closed.

I feel a staggered open is needed and past due. Localized events should not determine regional responses.

Now, the lockdowns were a needed step to properly evaluate the disease and give a clinicians a chance to try treatments and for long term effects to emerge.

And that still stays in effect until we find a silver bullet.

But there is a economic practical reality involved. You don’t just hide at home assuming science will save you, especially with a disease that never had a mortality rate in line with the long standing fear of an emergent disease (highly communicable and above 5%).

R(0) is still above 1, unlike flu, but it is depressed compared to winter values.

There is value to limited reopening now to try to spread immunity in advance of potential tight lockdown in winter.

This also gives time to consider and companies arrange more sustainable alternatives if needed.

This very recent notion of lockdown until the virus is completely controlled is absurd fear mongering that I have to assume has ulterior motives attached.

The public health ideal is a variable response that keeps the hospital load under a certain threshold.

The question I’d like to ask them is how do they think it’s a viable option to have our economy shutdown for months?

And I don’t want to hear about how “lives are more important”. Because if they really believe that saving lives is the most important thing, then they’d realize far more lives will be lost from a massive economic depression caused by the total collapse of the American economy than this virus could ever hope to kill.

Honest question, do you really not realize if we wait until July there will be next to nothing left to reopen? The toll on small businesses, which employ roughly 50% of the workforce in American will be catastrophic. Even a lot of big businesses will be lost forever by that point. How can you not see this?
