This is to incentivize people to turn up the thermostat during the summer and penalize people who do not. If you are satisfied with your bill, I would not go around changing things. If this program would ultimately lose them money, they wouldn't be doing it.

Depending on the savings I'd do it. Plenty of places offer reduced rates for off peak usage.

Do you use more energy during the summer or winter.

I know in the winter my bill is 1/2 what it is in the summer.

Looks like they want to charge u less in winter when you use less energy and more in the summer when you use more.

You can always put on more clothes to get warm but once you’re naked you can’t take off anything else to help get cooler

It’s not the reduced rates that are the problem. It’s the increased rates in the summer. That shite might fly in the North East where their idea of a hot day is 85 and 60% humidity and opening the windows provides some relief. Not here where it is hot as the face of the sun at midnight.

Got the same email. They gotta give more details before I’d sign up.

They are offering to “a limited number of customers” which I’m sure were identified as the high summer usage customers. I’ve already got my thermostats set to balance comfort and cost; they wouldn’t offer this unless it would cost more or make me turn the thermostat even higher.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - When deciding whether to participate in programs designed to conserve energy during peak hours, consumers appear to rely more on their intuition about how much money they're saving rather than on proof their bills are smaller, a new study has found. Actual savings for utility customers who participated in a program that encouraged thoughtful energy usage - things like running loads of laundry during non-peak times and turning off the air conditioning during peak evening hours - was real, but minimal, the study found.

Doesn't sound like there's much savings, and it's probably a bigger bill if you're not willing to change your usage habits.

But Cleco doesn't operate in the NE. I imagine the rate condition is adjusted for the region.

If it were a long term contract or such bullshite then no I wouldn't do it but I'd give it a try for a year. But I'm a cheap mofo and saving $20/mo would tickle my fancy.

I heard that one of a power companies biggest challenge is trying to estimate what demands are going to be so they can ramp up or down throughout the day. I'd guess that if they ramp up at say 6pm by too much then that power is wasted. This program would help them better estimate usage thus less energy wastes.

Those gimmicks and/or promotion rarely work to benefit the customer.

In TX with energy deregulation you have your choice of 64 providers and 314 different plans. You get all sort of stuff like that and have to weed through it

Pretty much will restrict the use of your AC on the very days you'll need it most.
