I like that phrase as well, even though it doesn’t make much sense because if you are hanging up then you aren’t listening any longer.

What you did there...I see it.

Why does that bother you is the question?
Because it's stupid, is the answer.

What are this boards thoughts on the term “reach out” or “reaching out” to mean contact/talk to/communicate with?
Thank you for sharing!

I think we need to circle back around this term next week to dive deeper into this.

I use it often and hate it but there are many ways to contact them, call, text, email, go to there office, IM, it just sums them all up. I’ll do one of those and get back to you.

Depends on your paradigm

Hate it and always find alternative words for it so I don’t sound like a douche.

I use it more than I'd like to - usually in follow ups. I'll never forget this one time I was cold calling on a certain executive - I said I'm reaching out to you to introduce etc... ....
He flat out said (knowing he was being an arse) repeatedly, what is "reaching out" - what do you mean "reach out to me". I'm sorry, I don't know what "reaching out" is.
It hurt a little inside.

I’d rather “reach out “ than “at the end of the day “. I cringe when I hear that !

My favorite phrase that most people hate is “I’ll hang up and listen” after asking a question. It’s hilarious.
I don’t mind it, as it’s interesting in being anachronistic. It’s a throwback to when people called into radio shows. It meant that you had said your piece, and now you were going to give the host the last word, as you were hanging up the phone (your only way of speaking) and simply listening to their response over the radio.
Now, with that said, when people use it for no reason and then respond to further the argument, they are jackasses who should be mocked as such.

It doesn’t bother me at all

Yep. My relatively new one is about people "staying in their lane" at work.
"Suzy from marketing is trying to tell the IT guy that Zoom isn't a good platform for interfacing. She needs to stay in her lane"

I prefer misusing terms I hate. With this one, try using reach around instead.
Invite your co-workers to reach around to you if they need anything.

A woman told me she was reaching out to me.
I asked if she thought I had fallen out of my boat or something.
