People who speed through residential neighborhoods are typically inconsiderate assholes who aren't going to stop doing so based on a sign in your yard.

They make more sense in city neighborhoods where you have bigger roads and commuters from elsewhere.
I've seen them in quiet suburban neighborhoods where nobody other than pizza delivery guys and residents drive and it seems more like a typical Nextdoor busybody thing to do in those settings.

Careless driving/excessive speed through residential areas should warrant harsh penalties. That extra 20 mph may allow you to get to your destination half a minute quicker, but could be the difference between killing or not killing a little kid. If that sign helps at all it’s worth it.

Have your wife create a NextDoor account, take pictures of all the dickheads that fly through your neighborhood, and have her post all of them. Peer pressure from neighbors and spouses can help alot.
We also had enough complaints that a sheriff will sit on the main drag in the neighborhood pretty regularly. That has helped too.

Just tell the local police to sit in your driveway with their radar. It worked for me.

My "hood " is having this issue.
2 reasons
poorly designed neighborhood, with winding curves and people parking in the street causes driver to come around a bend with no line of sight
speed, which almost always are teenagers from the neighborhood itself .Since there is no reason to be there unless you live there. ( no short cuts to anywhere)

I heed them. If my kids lived there, they'd be smart enough not to play in the f&%king street, or at least be on the lookout for cars. I'm going to drive as fast as safety permits.

One dbag on the Nextdoor app was complaining about the little plastic green kid with the flag hanging off his hand.

You can do like people on our street. Let their kids play in the street. Like literally put lawn chairs at end of driveway and watch. They put out the little yellow person holding a flag sign with slow written on it. They put it in the middle of the street and only 1 car can pass (granted the kids already have their bikes sprawled out so no huge difference). They have a back yard and a huge park with basketball courts, tennis courts, splash pad ,etc all within a quarter mile. Also have miles and miles of bike paths. Yet they need to put those signs out and stop traffic so their fricktard kids can play. And I dont mean to single out the kids. Its not fair. But the fact is fricktard parents will most likely raise fricktard children, so im just getting out ahead of it and calling them fricktards now. I hate those people.

In all seriousness, I handle this shite in levels
1. Verbal warning - usually step out in the street and politely ask someone to slow down
2. Take it a step further and holler out expletives the next time, let them know I mean business
3. THEN get cops involved... I’d rather not go this route.. I’m not the one to get police involved, but if it prevents this shite in the future, then I’m all for it
People think that this type of shite only happens on their own street. Police in my city deal with this all over the place, and it’s hard for them to put a permanent stop to it. So I always try to handle it by myself (peacefully at first) before getting the cops involved
