Again, no one cross shops the GTR with a Camaro. MAYBE with the vette, but even then it would more likely be GTR or NSX or Lexus or Porsche. The Camaro and even to some extent the Corvette are about raw power with some ability to pretend to be a sports car as opposed to the other cars listed which are pure sports cars with an abundance of power.

A Z06 is as about a pure sports car as you can get..

Just saw this thread...I have a black 98 NA. It may not be a turbo, but it's a cruiser car and still gets looks everywhere it goes.

This is me and my other friend at the NOLA lakefront.

I'll believe it when I see it whatever hits the showroom floor.

They have been talking about a new Supra for years now and nothing has come of it.

Base 991 turbo with any decent options is pushing 160. Turbo S , 200k.

GTR isn't the value it once was when it launched. Well over 100K now so you're comparing it to 911 Turbos price wise correct?

. I owned one for 6 years. Turn traction off and it's a handful, especially with bolt on power, the cars come alive with minor mods. Mine was 1300 whp for about 3 years and it scared the shite out of me on the regular LOL.

When a Mustang has 420ish hp stock GT the Supra better be super light to not get laughed out of the building.

Considering how Toyota refuses to increase the HP of the 86 I seriously doubt they'll try to mess with the pony cars

I was really considering price only, IF my guess about the Mk5 is correct it will give up HP to the pony cars but likely will be a better driver. People forget the Mk4 was not a straight line beast from the factory it was just a very well balanced drivers car. I cross shopped it against the E36 M3 in '95 and the handling balance was very near that of the near perfect M3. Some think it is going to compete against the 80+k cars but I don't see it happening.

The GTR is about $110k where the Turbo starts at over $160 (usually about 180 as optioned by dealers) and the (better value) Turbo S is just under $200k. I imagine there is some cross shopping but not much. The GTR is arguably still a good value but is sliding backwards against the competition.

In theory yes, in reality, I can't call anything that can't do 5 hot laps at the track without having to cool off the engine a pure sorts car. GMs solution, short shift, yep pure sports car nirvana.

The Supra will be a fine car and fill a segment, it just won't be winning any best in class awards or crushing the competition at the track at its price point anymore if it's as discussed because that class has changed so drastically was my point.

Who is saying it will win awards or crush its competition? The unmodified 4th Gen Supra didn't either. That wasn't the goal then and it won't be the goal now. People who don't get that just don't get Toyota in general. They're not trying to win a HP or speed war with any of their vehicles. They're shooting for an overall experience. The goal with the 4th Gen was to build an all-around driver's car that had great balance and feel, was predictable, enjoyable and comfortable. Not to win races or set sales records. I expect that to be the same goal with the new one. Some people, just like back then, won't get it, but some will, and they'll love their cars. At the end of the day, Toyota will make a profit and the band will play on...

If anything like last Supra, this will be a smart buy and retain 85-90% of it's value after five years (great lease candidate).

It blows my mind how much old Supras and NSXs are.

But seriously, you wanna know how I know you have zero fricking clue as to what you speak???

I absolutely know what I speak about without going into what I drive or have driven outside of one Japanese FJ40 which is unbeatable. Japanese cars drive detached and without any soul. Sorry to offend so many people, but very much correct here. You love mediocre machines it's OK. I don't.

Your allegiance too shite is amusing.

I had the same color, '79 model. Still have an '87 turbo. Both came from grandma, lightly used. CSB?

To each his own... I cannot call anything a pure sports car when it can be loaded with two car seats in the backseat.

Alfas look great.

This concept and every concept related to the Supra so far has been butt ugly. Still seems very awkward looking in camo but it could just be good camp.

I have a feeling that toyota will screw it up though. It'll be way too busy.
