Having said that, with the right weight and gearing, it will most likely still be an amazing car to drive. I have no doubt that Toyota will not attach the Supra name to a shitty car.

So you want them to be like Honda and badge the Supra on a 155k supercar where no one can touch it?

No, I was saying that even though the HP number is lower than people may have been expecting, the new Supra will likely be an awesome car.

Okay cool, because I still haven't forgiven Honda for what they did to the NSX.

A lot of stupid comments in this thread.

340HP is a lot of power.

Yeah, no...

When a new Honda Civic can be had with 300hp+... It's not a lot.

Yes, it is, but the issue is the power for the car.

I have a 3 year old Infiniti Q50 that has 328 HP @ around 4k lbs and it moves, but if you are about to lay out coin for a sportscar (I would guess the price point will be around $55k base), you want more than 12 hp more than a sedan.

I get it, but after HPFP failure, turbo rebuilds....Sure it's not the long block but still requires the car to be at the dealer for repair under warranty.

I hope that was an N54(new to direct injection thus the HPFP issues and overly complicated twin turbo setup) problem and they have worked out all of those kinks by now in their what 3rd? generation turbo six recently. I'm about to put my wife in a B58 vehicle and want it to last.

The Supra was intended to compete with the top level Mustangs and Camaros.

I agree that 340 is fine for a base Supra, but do you know what a ZL1 1LE Camaro would do to a 340hp Supra? And don't give me the it's for the corners bit because the ZL1 will still kick its arse around the track due to the power disparity.

Maybe there will be an updated model to compete with those offerings and we just don't know about it yet?

When you have Accords and pickup trucks with similar HP to your sports car offering you have a problem and you have to understand that the competition has upped its game. To compete Toyota will have to as well.

The vast majority of the N54's issues were worked out toward the latter production runs and is quickly gaining legend status given it is a bolt on 700 whp engine. The B58 appears seems to be turning out to be a reliable power plant and is a Wards 10 Best.

As for using the B54 in the new Supra while 340ish hp doesn't seem high it is important to note the torque is in the 370 lb/ft range and the engines have a lot of real estate under the entire power curve. Plus I imagine that Toyota wants to see the Supra as a decent volume car and that wouldn't happen if it carried a 500hp price tag but the 200hp B48 Supras will be the bread and butter anyway. Plus if the Supra is well received there is nothing to stop them from adding a lower production 400+hp range topper at some point.

The horsepower wars have really heated up and are giving us 650hp Camaros and 700hp 911s. The funny thing is despite the ever growing levels of performance in cars I don't see any more people at track days than I did 15 years ago, but there is more interest in events like the Texas Mile and content creators roll racing other content creators on the interstate.

The nissan 300zx is one of may all-time favorite cars. Would love to see this version slightly tweaked but overall the body style back then was kick arse.

I just don't see how BMW sharing engines with Toyota just because they worked together on this chassis is a good thing for BMW unless they gave them some serious hybrid or Carbon Fiber technology.

I can't imagine Toyota going with a higher performance engine than the standard 6 cylinder from BMW. They'll add electrical power to boost it or just keep it the way it is just like they've done with the 86.
