I'm thinking of taking the family here for vacation this year. Can we make a week out of it or is this just a long weekend kind of trip. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went as a kid (12 years old) with my family. I'll never go again.

We were thinking of going in April. The wife is pregnant and she wants to get away before we have the kid in September. Her grandparents live in Murfreesboro and she hasn't seen them in a while. She'd like to go see them for 2-3 days and then go somewhere a few hours away from Murfreesboro for a few days. I suggested Pigeon Forge or Mammoth Cave NP. Not sure what we'll do just yet

I can't really speak for family trips, but in college we took our Mountain Weekend to Pigeon Forge every year, and we had fun.

My buddy also got arrested for having sex in the hot tub on the deck, which was in perfect view of a church group's cabin next to ours, so there's that.

How did they know your buddy wasn't an ordained minister and was just baptizing her in the holly waters of the Smokey Mountains?

I went to that area last August. IMO four days would probably be good. There's lots of stuff for kids, and maybe spend one day in the national park.

Went a few years back with my wife. We stayed in Gatlinburg but frequented PF. I would recommend going to the Lumber Jack Feud dinner show and white water rafting (not sure what time of year you plan on going). If you enjoy pancakes you should definitely check out Pancake Pantry. Best I've ever eaten. Clingmens Dome was pretty cool too. Really just depends on what you're into and able to do while you're there

it's like most other tourist traps. rent a chalet instead of a hotel room. the place can be really pretty in winter. there are kids shows like the bears and whatnot. a fake snow mountain where you can ski/snowboard.

If you are going to make that drive, you need to stay at least a week
Traffic sucks during the summer vacation season
It's worth seeing and doing once, I will probably never go back.

Stay in Townsend not Pigeon Forge. You can make a week of it easily.

This is something I absolutely never thought I would see in writing.

You can definitely make a week out of it. I'd stay closer to Great Smokey. There is more to do in the park. We always avoid Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg tourist traps.

This.

Townsend is great if you do not like touristy places and want a more peaceful setting.

If you like doing redneck things, you will njoy pigeon forge.

Plenty of better places to stay. I like WNC and North Georgia better. Checked out the Toccoa area last weekend and did the 3 miles up/3 miles down at Currahee.

There is e in Smoky for the rest of you people.
