I was waiting on one of the holier than thou athiests to say that. Trust me, I get no personal edification from you monkeys.

There are a lot of smart people on here who have a lot experience in things I don't. I find it useful.

I wish more doctors would promote fasting then. Why dont they? Oh because we live in a money hungry pharmaceutical world

Mine does. He's the one that started all of this for me in July 2025.

The tin foil hat in me says the more people that could heal their nagging aches and pains the less business the primary docs would see. Can't cut off the gravy train, I guess.

I’m not an atheist. I was just quoting Jesus, bro.

I don’t know your beliefs, but orthodox Christians reject the Marcion heresy of rejecting the Old Testament.

If you reject the Bible as being the infallible word of God, then that’s the biggest difference between our beliefs, not fasting.

It was a tongue in cheek statement.

The longest I was able to fast was 76 hours. What started as a 24 hour fast evolved into +3 days because I never felt hungry enough to break, so I kept going.

After about 54 hours, I started feeling short periods of light hunger pangs, so I added zero calorie hydration to my water. The energy and clarity I experienced was indescribable. The periodic slight hunger eventually faded and an overwhelming calming sensation helped me get through the final hours.

I think i could have gone longer, but I was cooking family dinner and instinctively tasted something to see if the salt level was OK and broke the fast. The change in brain chemistry was instantly noticeable. My calmness and fatigue were replaced with a realization that I was missing out on food and eagerness to consume calories overcame me.

I've tried to replicate this feat, but could only get +50 hours before needing/wanting to break it.

Good luck on your journey!

quote:

Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

From a health/fitness perspective, fasting and even IM are basically incompatible with my workout regimen. I trigger autophagy multiple times a week. Outside of being ill, I don't think I have fasted (more accurately, not eaten) for more than about 12 hours in my life.

One doctor told me I could control prediabetes with diet. So I read and came to realize that fasting was an option. Last year I did some intermittent and some 24 hours.
I read more and heard about autophagy and read a lot of the scientific papers about it. This year I've done twelve forty eight hour fasts and two three day fasts and I think they are leading to some good things in addition to the waist line I'm supposed to have.

Read about autophagy and decide for yourselves.

For a seven day fast you need not only salt but also magnesium. You can get the latter with an epsom salt foot soak. Again read about your body's excreting sodium and magnesium with the water that comes out as your body converts fat, etc into glucose.

Fasting and prayer are very often done in tandem. Not just in Christianity but other faith traditions as well.

Where in the OP did he mention that he was fasting for spiritual purposes?

Because I only see him doing that after he was asked why he’s fasting.

I don’t get your point, or why it would matter, but he states that he was doing it for religious purposes in the OP.

God creates life! Central to God’s design of life is the Krebs cycle (cellular life). People fast (extended) for religious purpose. Krebs cycle is essential to life and God’s design thereof. Fasting (extended) flies in its face. Never fully grasped religious irony. Are there not better ways to Honor God?

That’s akin to saying God created life and endowed man the ability to procreate so have as much sex as possible to honor God.

Fasting is a way of honoring God through self discipline and appreciating all He provides.

Seven days is as long as I’ve done, but have done 3-4 days quite a bit.

When you say water only, do you have a zero calorie way of getting some electrolytes?

I add a pinch of the Red Sea salt to my water to help with electrolytes. Otherwise after a couple days I start getting muscle cramps in my legs.

I just do it to not be fat and have brain fog.

Really sharpens the senses for me and, of course, helps the waistline.
