Thoughts on fasting

I've started a 7 day water only fast. It's mostly for religious purposes though I have read there are some medical benefits beyond weight loss. I do allow my self black tea or coffee in the morning. I've stopped any strenuous exercise for the duration. I'm on day 2 and the hunger pains aren't that noticeable.
Anyone else done this? What was it like and how did you do?

I could never do those stupid long ones. But two to three times week, I'll skip dinner.

I used to do a sabbath fast weekly... and intermittent fasting along with keto too. Never tried a week long fast, what's driving such a long fast for you?

My wife and younger kids are on a mission trip. I was supposed to go with them but one of our older kids was having some problems so we decided it best I stay at home with him. Every time I feel hungry I'll pray for them and what they're doing.

God creates life!
Central to God’s design of life is the Krebs cycle (cellular life).
People fast (extended) for religious purpose.
Krebs cycle is essential to life and God’s design thereof. Fasting (extended) flies in its face.
Never fully grasped religious irony.
Are there not better ways to Honor God?

Not a fan of fasting, or sobriety for that matter.

I did it numerous times because it makes me feel wonderful- after the first 24-48 hours it takes the body and mind to adjust.

Self control is cool, too

I've read that day 3 is when your body starts to really react to it. What did you notice?

That's pretty cool.
Prayers for your son and family.

7-day water fast for religious purposes. Hmm.
I generally do not fast.
*hunger pangs.

I've been doing IF for a while now, including a couple of 24 and 48hr fasts scattered here and there. Never a week though. While black coffee or tea doesn't technically break the fast, the caffeine supposedly has an effect on cortisol hormone levels. Just saying you may have better luck next time if you wean yourself off of caffeine prior to your fast, then forego it entirely.
Since I've started IF, i've noticed that I need to have 1-2 glasses of water as soon as I wake up before I can tolerate coffee. And then I typically take it later in the morning, like at about 10am. If I were to try a 7 day, I wouldn't mess with caffeine, but that's just my body.

I lived in Houston when the Rockets went on their run, Olajuwon was always fasting :
The Impact of His Fasting on the Court Historic 1995 Run: In February 1995, Olajuwon played 15 games while fasting, averaging 29.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game. His legendary performances earned him the NBA's Player of the Month award during Ramadan.
Dominating Michael Jordan: On January 19, 1997, a fasting Olajuwon led the Houston Rockets to a 102-86 blowout win against the Chicago Bulls, posting 32 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 5 blocks.
Energy and Focus: Olajuwon openly credited fasting for giving him a stronger, more energetic mindset. He believed it purified his body and mind, helping him focus on the spiritual blessings rather than the lack of food or water.

That's a good point. I noticed caffeine affect me differently this morning. I'll probably forego it the rest of the way.
