Thoughts on bosses who like to test employees

I'm lin a new profession and my boss loves to test what I know. They like to see if I'm picking up on stuff so they'll intentionally leave out information that could make things much easier so I can improve my problem solving skills.
A couple of days ago, I spent 3 hours more or less trying to solve something that's that the answer to my boss had been emailed the previous day and they spent that time giving vague answers to my questions.
It's great and horrible at the same time. I feel very satisfied when I finally solve something and I damn well will not have have an issue with these sort of problems in the future.
At other times, I feel like a fricking idiot and be pretty dejected. I'm told that it's obvious or I'll be tested on something that I haven't been peeped for/shouldn't be dealing with.
Overall though, I think it's a pretty good method when used appropriately and not excessively.

Whatever makes you feel better about being a dummy.

Maybe your boss isn't so great and forgot he had the information or is just a lazy frick.

I may be a dummy, but if I am, I'm overachieving and am therefore content.

Nah, they take an active role in it. They'll be asking me what I'm thinking throughout a process and at the end they'll show me how to come to the conclusions quicker. For the email thing, they forwarded me the email they had received dated the previous day and mentioned it when they had assigned me the issue.

Sounds like a good boss...you know. Making sure you know how to do shite.

I tend to do this pretty often with my employees but there is also a large knowledge/educational gap. Sometimes it fun to watch em squirm. Although it's equally as satisfying to see them light up when they figure it out.

How wonderfully condescending

I think it's a good management style.
You don't really learn shite on the job until you're on your own.

Apparently English is not one of their requirements.

We occasionally make up test for our sales team. We will have questions they should know the answers to at their skill level but also add some the will have to figure out. It's a great way to force them to learn another subject.

Sounds like they've taken an interest in you and want to help you learn? Pretty good situation if they're not dicks about it.

Unfortunately there are lots of college hires out there who really don't know how to think through a problem. If you're a new hire don't worry too much about it. You aren't expected to know shite from shinola just yet but you learn by doing. Sounds like you're getting plenty of practice.

On my second boss that does this.
