The trade deadline was in October, genius.

I took a flyer on Intelsat (I) Stock

Intelsat owns the keys to quite a bit of the spectrum best suited for future 5G service. I've done a decent amount of research and while I don't like their debt situation, if 5G becomes big over the next few years (which I think it will) their cash flow will easily allay my concerns. It's up 400+% on the year, another concern, because any support is a long, long ride down, but 5G really does seem to be a given at this point and we're in the first inning of that game. Anyway, I took a small flyer on it and thought that maybe others who like to make a few bets might be interested (and might find something I didn't notice).
It was designed in the late 50's by engineers who have long since passed on.
Watch this video - he also has several more that go thru everything gelcoat related.

I saved $200 over any price a Houston or Dallas dealer would give, right here in Baton Rouge - without flying or driving anywhere. I guess it pays to know how to talk to people in person and not be afraid.

I'll be up and down the river all day tomorrow. If you can get to the boat launch under the bridge on hwy 22 or to Tin Lizzy's I'll drop you off. Post an email and I'll give you a # to text.
Survived 4 South Louisiana August high school football camps back when they allowed two a days, but no water breaks, the theory being that fighting through the thirst would make us tougher.
Go to YouTube and search Friscoboater. He has an entire series refurbishing an old sea ray boat. It's an interesting series and I watched every one of them but it's A LOT of work. That said, if you have the skills and the time, I can see it being a very satisfying project.
You really need to consider what you want out of a boat. Since you said you'll mostly use it for cruising and hanging out on a lake, the bowrider style is perfect for your needs. The fishing functionality won't come close to that of a dedicated fishing boat, but that doesn't seem to be what you want out of a boat. It'll anchor and/or troll around for perch and bass with the kids just fine.

Two years ago I traded in a 1992 bowrider with the same 3.0 liter engine. There was no hour meter so I have no idea how many hours it had on it, but it was plenty - that thing purred like it was on the showroom floor. It's bullet proof. The three things that hurt that engine are a lack of oil changes, over-revving of the engine and over-heating of the engine. A competent mechanic can easily test compression, inspect the exhaust risers for corrosion and tell you if the bellows need replacing.

As for the boat itself, the thing that kills 95% of older bowriders is the stringers and subfloor rot. Again, a good marine mechanic inspecting the boat can tell you if the sub-structure is in relatively good shape or not. If not, run. Trying to repair/replace stringers and subflooring just isn't worth it unless you do it yourself and it's a herculean task.

If you do buy it, maintenance on that style of boat is incredibly easy. Wax it once a year, change the oil in both the engine and outdrive once a year and keep the trailer hubs greased. Change the outdrive impeller every two years. Run ethanol-free stabilized gas in a boat that age, fog it in the fall and it'll start right up every spring.

As for price, that seems very reasonable. Offer 3k and settle on $3,500 of you decide to buy it.
Thanks, Corndog. I know the carb was in pretty bad shape when it was last running. Compression should be good, it was overhauled with a bore/new piston about 10 years ago and not much use since. The guy who did the work then is no longer with us and none of the local dealers will look at it.

Edit: Thanks Sid, I'll call them tomorrow.

Gravely Model L repair

Posted by GrantTheFan on 4/17/17 at 3:54 pm
I have an old 1972 Gravely Model L lawn mower that's been sitting in a barn for about 5 years and can't find anybody in our around Baton Rouge who will work on it. Does anybody know of a guy? TIA.
What struck me about this is that the LSP can easily recover your deleted texts if they were investigating you or me. Investigating themselves, "well the texts have been deleted. Too bad."
I have a runabout with a pretty big swim platform, seadeck cut the pieces to fit, I installed. Looks great, has held up without any issues and surprisingly easy to clean - and I've had a lot spilled on it.
I Didn't see the post so can't give an exact quote. A friend of mine told me Gary deleted his post making fun of Barron for "having something wrong with him" but didn't remember the exact wording. If that's true, I'd like a screenshot of it.
To provide Mayor Broome with the screenshot.
It's been answered twice, genius. Sorry you can't comprehend simple words.
True, and a good angle I didn't think of.
Correct, that's the narrative. Again, I didn't see the post, just heard about it. If the telling I heard is accurate, this is something I feel disqualifies Gary from serving for the mayor and for the new NBR Economic Development Authority.
