Some smartphone-carrying millennials and Gen Zers are so used to texting upon arrival that the sound of a ringing doorbell freaks them out; ‘it’s terrifying’

Some young people say they won’t ring or answer the doorbell because they are far more comfortable announcing an arrival by text message

Honestly, if I didn't know you were coming ahead of time, I'm not randomly answering the doorbell for any schmuck who wanders onto my porch. This isn't 1986.

Door bells are for pussies that can't knock correctly.

There's no way they've never knocked on a door or rang a doorbell before or had someone knock on their door or ring their doorbell before.
I mean this sounds made up.

And those are the pussies that will one day work for me. Every generation has them. They, are mine.

Holy crap this thread ia good timing.
My sis in law (no pics) texted me yesterday about dropping something off. I said sure, whenever, we are home. About an hour later i walked past the front windows and saw she was in the driveway.
I opened the door and said good timing. She was irate because she had called twice and texed 3 times she was there. I had left my phone in the bedroom so i dodnt hear it.
I asked why she didnt just ring the doorbell and she got even more pissed.
She is 31 fwiw

Well I hope she's hot and good in bed, because if she isn't capable of ringing a doorbell, she won't get very far.

I give a text heads up typically when I make my last turn or so.
Consider it a courtesy so they can anticipate it when I do knock or use the door bell
It just seems rude to me not to if you have their cell, because a door bell is synonymous with "drop everything you are doing and come HERE!"
at someone getting mad at you for not seeing a text to let them in.

The boomers would do the same thing if they could operate a smartphone.

I've hated doorbells since the 70's. Texting makes more sense if it's just one specific person who needs to answer the door.

I always knock on the door anyways. unless you're a door to door salesman, I don't know why you'd be arriving unannounced.

I get it, but it's awfully stupid to assume the other person carries their phone and couldn't possibly put it down and thus not get text notification that you're outside. That is the flaw in logic that characterizes some of the utes of today - it's not the 'dependence' on technology, it's the flawed assumption that everyone else is dependent or 100% tied to it and so forth. But that type of flawed reasoning is characteristic of all generations. Their perspectives will open up as they get a little older.
