The 80's was a time when the ethos of America was still in a state of "anything is possible" and there was a real belief that every generation will have it better than the last. It was a colorful time when we were really getting into technology and advancements were blowing our minds. Lots of iconic movies were being pumped out and the entertainment business was skyrocketing. That's an oversimplification obviously, but I'm just looking at the things that separates the 80's from today.

The 90's was also great nostalgia because it was really the last decade where teenagers and young adults were free from the tethers of cellphones and from the puritanical scourge and permanence of social media. You could screw up and only a few people would know about it. The big difference for me from the 80's to the 90's is that people got really fricking jaded and of course they pressed the reset button on music and produced a wide variety of great albums.

It fricks it up for a lot of weak people. I have no problem jerking it to some blonde bitch and then fricking my wife that afternoon.

There was a ton of stuff to fap to. I remember this aerobics show that used to come on early morning or late night. Pron was a rare delicacy but no one was hooked on it like they are now.

Ehh. I look at it a little differently. I was in college ‘86-‘90.

Probably one of the most repressed periods in history.

Girls wore clothes like they were on Little House on the Prairie. AIDS was terrorizing the world. I didn’t learn how to make an excel spreadsheet

Where did YOU go to college? I went to LSU in the early ‘80s, and when the weather warmed up the short shorts and halter tops came out, and I had to walk around with my book bag held low and in front. Yoga pants are great, but I prefer the short shorts that show their legs.

I was born in the 80s but was 5 in 89. My growing up was in the 90s which was glorious.

kids of my era got to feel every Saturday morning when we got up early, poured a big bowl of cereal, and got to watch cartoon for a few hours.

10 freaking 4 greatest of times

Then about 10 am or so all the neighborhood kids would start pouring out and getting together to plan whatever we would do that Saturday. OUTSIDE :)

My observations:

For all of you youngsters here, the 80s were a regression in some respects. After the sixties and seventies there was a swing back toward conservatism - Reagan, media (television such as "Family Ties" with Michael J. Fox), etc. The music was not good in comparison with the prior two decades, which featured musicians who actually were proficient artists producing varied original works of all genres (Beatles, The Who, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, CSN&Y, Motown, etc.). The 80s metal and hair bands just grew their hair out, learned three chords, and played and sang as loudly as possible. However, some redeeming quality in the advent of MTV and video creation with acts like The Cars, Paula Abdul, Hammer, etc.

The American automobiles of the 80s were absolute crap. In the 80s I had a Porsche with a 3 inch color television in the glove box (no satellite signal available but could watch the local news and Happy Days on the way home, or Earth, Wind and Fire concerts via a video player tucked behind the passenger seat).

Fashion in the 80s was conservative (except for women's swimwear and workout gear). Who remembers halter tops in the 70s? College and high school girls wearing a simple bandana sans bra.

Awkward trivia: I dated two girls who had been underwear models in JCPenney's catalogs. Later in their lives of course. No pics, don't want a ban.

We need to add the Ford Bronco II to this list. I know from personal experience.

I was born in 78. In the 80s, we played outside until our parents yelled for us to come in at dark.
Played whiffle ball, football, basketball, hide and go seek, capture the flag, hot wheels, guns, built forts, played with BB guns etc. We weren't glued to an electronic.
Family time was meaningful
We had better music, including MJ and madonna
Sports card collection
Better toys in happy meals and cereal boxes
Horror films
And goonies, gremlins, conan, beastmaster etc
