Yeah, most of the vehicles sucked, no disputing that.
C’mon man, you must not have had a Ford Pinto like my roommate did in ‘81.

The McDonald’s we grew up with in the 80’s
As you can see, it was a bright, welcoming place geared toward kids to go and have fun.
McDonald’s now...
Dull to the point of being depressing, a place geared toward socially conscious 20somethings with anxiety issues to go and stare at their laptop or phone.

I was born in 79 so my memory is limited but it was a pretty amazing time to be a kid. GI Joe, Transformers, Voltron. Too many movies and cartoons to list. Atari and Nintendo. We were called "latchkey kids" but for us it just meant a ton of freedom to roam and do what we wanted.

I can't even imagine living through the shitshow that adolescence and young adulthood must be now. Everything is so damned competitive and analytical.
Want to play youth sports? Be prepared to sacrifice 40 hours a week and compete against wackjobs from IMG Academy.
Want to go to a bar and try to "get lucky?" Better hope you're 21 with a scannable drivers license and can fly under the radar of the DUI Stasi. Oh, and there are no women at the bar and there's no "luck" involved. Tinder will sort the bottom 80% of you and your cohorts into incelistan.
Think you might want to go to college? Well, I hope you took 8 AP classes and an ACT prep class, and volunteered at Save-the-Bums instead of just goofing off and having a childhood.
Then you get into how young women are nowadays and who their role models are. I'd probably have blown my brains out long ago if I were born after 1990.

Literally the only thing I like better about now is access to unlimited music/entertainment in the car. I grew up in the country with 2 radio stations. Everything else was better 30 years ago.

Popeye and Pals?
I remember looking at those "big kids" in their scout uniforms and thinking they were the coolest people on the planet. Not sure who young people consider cool now... Flip 'Mo? Robin Thicke? IDK man.

Redline was the shite!
Remember type 1 and 2 mags. One heavier than the other. And all the “alloy” parts you could think of to put on them.

Take cartoons for example.
Man... Every Saturday morning was like a mini Christmas morning, especially when the new season of cartoons started in the Fall. During the week it was almost impossible to get us up and ready for the school bus at 7am but on Saturdays it was never a problem. Hell, we would sometimes be up before the tv stations signed on the air at 5am.
That kind of magic is something kids born within the last 20 or so years will never know.

My parents bought us a season passport for the worlds fair, I was 20 at the time and the drinking age was still 18. We lived on Fulton Street, it was a blast.
We would park in the Canal Place parking lot, my buddy had the balls to drive down the entrance ramp because we usually left at 2am and no one, thank God, was parking. He could get his car around the garage arm...

The only "grimace" nowadays is when their "partner's" snap-on tool makes its rear entry.

This is a solid thread. I’m a product of the 80’s. And I enjoy tech now as much as the next guy. But back then, there was no texting. You had to be on time, responsible. You had to talk, in person, learn to communicate face to face. You had to take a risk to ask someone out on a date. You matured much earlier than children today. You had to.
And the country wasn’t nearly as divided as today.
This thread brought me back to a simpler, happier time.
