To meet some true native New Orleanians, go to the bywater. Hanks supermarket is a fun non-tourist meeting place.

Visit Lee Circle, and stop by for a beer at Courtyard. The owner has an interesting fetish for (feather) Indians that comes out in hilarious ways.

Roosevelt is a really cool place to stay. JW Marriott downtown is also nice.

If you want to impress the wife, look at one of the nice boutique hotels downtown.

Do some research and be 100% certain you know where you got your shoes from.

I'd recommend Uptown, but if it has to be CBD vs FQ, go FQ. Avoid Bourbon. Leave for BR early. Gameday traffic nola to br SUCKS on game day the closer you get to kickoff.
Getting out is the worst though.

Monteleone is usually my first option.

But anywhere on Canal and I'm content and pretty indifferent.

I do not like staying in the Quarter. I like a few blocks and a easy walk into the quarter to get hammered, then back out to the hotel to sleep.

Stay at the La Pavillon, it’s walking distance to the French Quarter and has a great rooftop bar. Great breakfast as well.

Hilton Riverside is a good choice especially in case the weather is bad, you can access The Riverwalk without even going outside.

Ok, I am just now getting back to this. I live out of state, but do travel to NO pretty frequently on business. My recommendations are as follows:

I would stay in the quarter...on Bourbon St. if possible. I typically stay at either the Royal Sonesta, The Crown Plaza, or the Hotel Mazarin. All are on Bourbon and are good places to stay. Just be sure to ask for a room facing away from Bourbon, as the music is pretty loud until 3 AM or so. Expect to pay an additional $50 for parking if you have a car. You can probably find one with a free shuttle to the airport, too.

Since parking is expensive as hell in NO and driving is a pain in the arse around tiger stadium, I would consider forgoing the car rental and taking a Rally bus from NO to Tiger Stadium and back. I have used these busses a few different times and can tell you they are easily worth the $40 or so per person that they cost. You likely won't take the car out for anything while you are in NO and the busses are a totally enjoyable way to attend games.

I'll post more as I think of it.

Hampton Inn on Carondolet is nice with a two block walk to Bourbon St...

If staying Hilton in that area I’d do the HGI like a building over or a lot of time the Hilton on st Charles is cheap. Hampton would be lower on my list
