35 years in a small cell. The lights are never turned off.

At some point they gave him a TV so they could have something to take away from him for additional punishment. Nicknamed the most isolated man in America.

A psychiatrist checks on him occasionally to verify he is unhappy with his conditions, which means he hasn’t gone insane.

Thomas Edward Silverstein (born February 4, 1952) is an American convicted murderer. He has been incarcerated continuously since 1977 and has been convicted of four separate murders while imprisoned, one of which was overturned.[1] He has been in solitary confinement since 1983, when he killed prison guard Merle Clutts at the Marion Penitentiary in Illinois.

Is he the guy that killed a guy by stabbing him with a newspaper?

Just put on The Last Jedi on a never ending loop and he'll hang himself.

Never turning the lights off seems like cruel and unusual punishment.

Can't say that I feel sorry for him. He's never going to reform and contribute anything to the human race. I'd support executing him and be done with it.

They had to find a way to punish him because tacking on life sentences to someone with two already is obviously not working.
quote:

Silverstein claims that "no human contact” status is essentially a form of torture reserved for those who kill correctional officers. "When an inmate kills a guard, he must be punished," a Bureau of Prisons official told author Pete Earley. "We can’t execute Silverstein, so we have no choice but to make his life a living hell. Otherwise other inmates will kill guards too. There has to be some supreme punishment. Every convict knows what Silverstein is going through. We want them to realize that if they cross the same line that he did, they will pay a heavy price."[4]

Now they need to shut the lights off for 35 years, just to change it up and keep it fresh.

Guy is in the supermax prison in Colorado now. He has done quite a lot while in prison to earn his isolation. Killed two guards, started a riot, etc.
